I happened to have already read (audio-booked) Aru Shah #1 some times ago. I'm glad there is a book about Hindu mythology that's catching so much attention. While I didn't fully connect with the story, I'm happy seeing this new wave of POC main characters and non-European mythologies getting center stage.
The pace is extremely slow, and the quest seems to take forever. I like the way Aru describes the situation: "Don't the gods want the world to be saved quickly? This journey is more useless than a unicorn's horn." That about sums it up.
Cannot get this either at the library and still too many covid restrictions. Not interested enough to try to purchase a copy as I am at present trying to limit the amount of books I purchase mostly because of a lack of space.
I thought it was apropos that it had an introduction by Rick Riordan. It was very reminiscent of one of his mythology series. The Hindu mythology isn't one that a lot of Americans are used to compared to Greek, Roman, and Norse. So there were lots of new names and a steep learning curve. It is nice that this culture is getting a popular series. :)
