It might have been a DAW fantasy from the early 80s.

Like a mashup of Glory Road and Hoka, there was a kingdom to save, a purple furry princess to win and an odd alien teddy bear creature that was telekinetic or something like that. Really pulpy cover with a knight in armor on a horse with the teddy bear like creature sitting behind him....

There was something sword and planet about the story where the protagonist was visiting the planet with the purple people and talking bears and got drawn into their conflict with some other medieval group.
