SOLVED. Supernatural fiction, actress (dancer?) is turned into a puppet. [s]

I read this book some time after 2017. It is set in Canada, I think Quebec, modern day.
The main character is a woman who is an actress or dancer in a local outdoor production. Her partner/husband is a professor or PhD student. She often walks home alone, past an empty storefront. One night after drinks with the cast she walks by the shop, but the lights are on and the door is open. She goes in and somehow is turned into a (wooden?) puppet and is trapped. There are other sentient puppets, but they don't talk out loud. The owners are an older couple, I think they are packing up the puppets to move. There's some urgency around being able to transform back into a person.
I can't remember how it ends and want to read it again!
