The Secrets of Umami question

I wrote my story "The Galactic Culinary Society & The Secrets of Umami" because I felt a lot of the stuff I see today is very dark; of course, we live in challenging times, but arguably every generation has had its challenges... Am I the only one who feels this way? Is there still room for classic style science fiction stories, or is that a relic of the past?
