One of the main things in the book that interest me is how she illustrates the difference between our perception of reality and the actual truth. There are so many examples here: Hannes's perception of why his mother died and the actual circumstances of her death, Hannes's perception of Aletta's relationship with Len while he is on the island and his conclusions regarding her departure from the island.
