I thought that it was a personality conflict. Through all the previous books, Kim ruffles co-workers feathers because the case is more important to her than the feelings of other police officers. Obviously I was off because their conflict was much deeper and Tom was waiting for her to report him.
I thought Kim had pissed him off in the past and was reluctant to work with her again. Interesting to see the table turned.
I don't think it would have bother Kim so much if she didn't like him as an investigator and a friend. She could not wrap her head around why he was still holding a grudge.
I actually suspected that they might have had a personal relationship that got in the way of the professional. I was so out in left field with this one.

That's the long time romance reader in me I guess. But actually I think the author was leading us to that conclusion a little. Either that or Kim becoming a DI before him caused male/female jealousy. I don't think there were enough clues for the reader to guess what happened. And it was a little strange for me. I guess Tom was hiding his wife's diagnosis so he couldn't be up front on why he lost it and Kim is never good at personal stuff so it became a bigger thing as time progressed.

Yep, I thought Kim and Travis had a personal relationship that didn't work out and got in the way of their work relationship. It seems like a lot of us thought that was the case.
In agreement here! I just assumed it had something to do with a personal relationship. Wow, I was way off. I truly thought it had something to do with Kim and not something Travis did.
