It’s clear from the onset that there was an event that created the rift between Kim and Tom. What sort of situations did you imagine? How close were your speculations to the truth?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3501 comments I thought that it was a personality conflict. Through all the previous books, Kim ruffles co-workers feathers because the case is more important to her than the feelings of other police officers.

Obviously I was off because their conflict was much deeper and Tom was waiting for her to report him.

Jo Ann (jojog) | 104 comments I thought Kim had pissed him off in the past and was reluctant to work with her again. Interesting to see the table turned.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3501 comments I don't think it would have bother Kim so much if she didn't like him as an investigator and a friend. She could not wrap her head around why he was still holding a grudge.

I actually suspected that they might have had a personal relationship that got in the way of the professional. I was so out in left field with this one.

Oh me too Jonetta. That's the long time romance reader in me I guess. But actually I think the author was leading us to that conclusion a little. Either that or Kim becoming a DI before him caused male/female jealousy. I don't think there were enough clues for the reader to guess what happened. And it was a little strange for me. I guess Tom was hiding his wife's diagnosis so he couldn't be up front on why he lost it and Kim is never good at personal stuff so it became a bigger thing as time progressed.

There weren’t any clues so this was all imagination and guesswork on my part😏

I agreed with your assessment, Jonetta. I also thought is was something personal.

Robin (robinmy) | 2478 comments Yep, I thought Kim and Travis had a personal relationship that didn't work out and got in the way of their work relationship. It seems like a lot of us thought that was the case.

~Teresa In agreement here! I just assumed it had something to do with a personal relationship. Wow, I was way off. I truly thought it had something to do with Kim and not something Travis did.

Their feelings were so intense I was convinced it was personal.
