g.vee (gvesthetic) | 45 comments Hey Book Mochis!!!
How are you all?
Hope you are enjoying the BOTM!
Today we will be starting the discussion of our April BOTM The Lightning Thief!
And the discussion is open now!
The first discussion question is What type of character Percy is and what type of student is he?
Happy reading!

G Well this is my second time reading Percy Jackson and I really like what Rick Riordan did for this series! To answer your question I think Percy is an adventuresome character and not a very good student but smart in other ways

Rafia (rafiagreste) | 269 comments Percy is a hero archetype. Even from the first few chapters of the book you can tell that Percy would throw his life on the line to help others. As for student? I want to become a teacher and ngl he is prbly the first kid i wud kick out of my class for how troublesome he is. I already have bad luck just walking imagine him being my students. Out of nowhere a whale will come crashing down on me....im serious.

Well Percy is a great type of character. He is loyal and stands up to what is right. And yes, he is troublesome being what he is.

Also, how are you all enjoying the book? You can tell here!!!

| Shakshi | (_shakshi__) If anybody wanna slap for my comment below then it's upto u but this what I really think about the book:

For me, this book is nothing but a basic so-so (I even dnfed this after 10 or so chapters, for the time being...... will be picking it up by the end of the month) because it is pretty predictable, lousy and unnecessarily long at specific points. Although this book is quite good in unfolding mysteries. Plot is not at all adhesive but character development is done wisely.

i just saw this sorryyyyy 😶😶😶😶
percy is amazing. i love him. maybe i'm biased, but he's percy and i will always love him. first he starts off as one of the most confused characters i've ever seen in a book. he's quirky (in the best way possible), lovable, loyal (HIS FATAL FLAW KJHFJKFKJHF), and overall, i'd say he's a pretty good person. he's always been in love with annabeth, even if his seaweed brain won't accept it early on in the series, but we all knew it was gonna happen 😏😏
as for what he's like as a student, percy is...trying. he's not the best at school, and we all know it. but that's ok, because he got better (i think. maybe i made that up in my mental fanfiction??), and i mean we can't blame him. he's adhd and he's got dyslexia.
i still love him though. now if you'll excuse me, i have some simping i need to do xx

Luna (luna13) "He was reading a huge book with a picture of a wizard on the front. I wasn't much into fantasy, but the book must've been good, because the guard took a while to look up."

I'M 100% sure the guard was reading Harry Potter :D The Lightening Thief is set in 2005/2006 so it could've been either OOTP or HPB.

Such a 'sly' book namedrop.

Moon Shukla (moon_chocoholic) For the those who are so openly critical of Percy and the book....All I have to say that you missing out on a bunch of fabulous adventures and some heartwarming friendships.... The character and story development is gradual. The plot runs so deep that you'll probably lose it by the time you reach the 5th book(well that is if you bother... else.. your loss)...
we also see a budding romance in these books and I could not be happier...
The Greek mythology is so beautifully illustrated... even if it is not accurate or even manipulated in certain areas...
The whole concept got me good.. real good... especially for a 12 year old who by the way... never looked at books twice...my first series..(which was perhaps 6 years ago ) I'll never forget percabeth.
Also read the next series... so worth it...
