Iton (iton94) | 156 comments I might have a book that can count for the 4 book series.

Yesterday I finished A Man Called Ove and continued listening to Anna Karenina. I started reading the Duke and I last night.

Joan Barnett | 1007 comments On some of the prompts the need more than one book we have a completed status on the prompt which I wouldn't think is correct.

I ended up putting Feed in the prompt with 1 book of a 4 part book series.

On the Tracking sheet, the prompts that need more than 1 book are separated into individual rows. So we count each read book as Complete. The prompt that needs a book from a 4 book series is listed 4 times.

I see that you put Feed on the same row as mine, so I moved it and marked it as Complete.

Oh I see! Sometimes I'm blind as a bat.

It does seem like The Road will be a quick book to read which will be good for the challenge.

message 55: by Chalmation (new)

Chalmation | 3730 comments I loved that book!

message 56: by Marleen (last edited Mar 27, 2021 05:32PM) (new)

Marleen | 957 comments Today I read a lot of Spoonbenders which unfortunately doesn’t fit any of the prompts but I needed to finish it this month for a different challenge. Great read though! And at least it will help for the wildcards.

Also I started listening to the audiobook of The Time Machine. I’ll finish this tomorrow, probably for prompt 17 or 18 (I know that in the planning sheet it looks like we have a ton for those, but I went through them and most of those books also work for rarer prompts so should probably be used for those). Also, it’s pretty short, so if anyone has wanted to read this classic, you could read it for prompt 1 once I’ve finished it tomorrow :)

I can read The Time Machine so we can complete prompt 1.

Yesterday I finished Mere Christianity and earlier today I finished The Duke and I. I have started reading Purple Hibiscus and Mr Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore.

Willemijn (willemijn_z) | 202 comments Amy (Other Amy) wrote: "You are doing great! If reading is happening, then I think it's a win. If it feels stressful though feel free to switch it out; there's no pressure here to finish or not. I think the encouragement to read is the main benefit from doing this."

Thanks! I've finished it now, and I'm glad I stuck with it. It's a fantastic book, and I couldn't have picked a better one as my first book to read in German. I'll be starting the next book for the readathon this afternoon.

Der kleine Hobbit (Middle-earth Universe) by J.R.R. Tolkien
Here's the cover for our bookshelf in this thread (I love the bookshelf btw, it's great to have a visual representation of our progress).

I've put it in the "25 languages" prompt, because I read this in my 3rd language and I like how fitting that is with the prompt. If it would need to be moved around later to count for a different prompt though, that's totally fine as well.

message 59: by Marleen (new)

Marleen | 957 comments Willemijn, I’m glad you enjoyed the Hobbit! I read it in October and really loved it.

I just finished The Time Machine. Some parts of the story were not as interesting to me. But it’s a short and quick read, and I’m glad I read it because it’s a classic in one of my favorite genres. Off to update to spreadsheet, and then I’ll continue reading Raising Steam

message 60: by Chalmation (new)

Chalmation | 3730 comments I just realized that I forgot to post that I finished my first book, but I see that Amy already posted it on the cover shelf. I'll try to remember to post my other books.

message 61: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1007 comments I should easily finish The Road today. It is a quick and easy read if anyone is interested. It's a post-apocalyptic world. It's different from the books I've been reading so it's a nice diversion from the normal. I've meant to read it for awhile and glad I finally am reading it.

I think the next book I'll read is The Light We Lost. That should count for a book starting with L.

message 62: by Willemijn (new)

Willemijn (willemijn_z) | 202 comments Right now, I don't really feel like reading the other book I'd planned for this readathon, so I've started another one, that fits a different prompt. The book I'd originally planned (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest) only fitted prompts we have plenty of other planned options for, so I'm now reading the 25th book on my tbr list, since we didn't have a planned book for that one yet.

Currently reading this one:
Het wassende water by Herman de Man

Chalmation | 3730 comments Finished Airframe by Michael Crichton
ETA: Prompt #8, book published in 1996.
On to the next!

message 64: by Marleen (new)

Marleen | 957 comments Oo Chalmation, that’s one of the tougher solo prompts done, yay! Did you like it?

We’ve already completed 11 prompts and earned 4 wildcards, with (so far) only 6 active team members, that’s so much!

Yes I liked it very much. Michael Crichton was a genius.

Amy (Other Amy) | 629 comments We are doing so amazing! I will try to get my laptop to recognize the internet this evening and do a proper update since the library computer just ate my nice big post, but I am totally thrilled. This is the most I've read in ages and it feels great. (I have one book left in the Wayward Children series plus a short story, and then onto other things.)

message 67: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1007 comments I completed The Road. I didn't like the ending but I swear I don't like any endings anymore. I counted it for a book written by an author who has written for more than 25 years.

Amy (Other Amy) | 629 comments Here is our progress through the end of yesterday:

Wild Cards earned: 5

Busy few workdays for me here, so not a lot of reading done today and probably tomorrow.

I think we are having a little book confusion, because I'm not getting the same title you have from that cover link. (I'm just trying to put the right book on the bookshelf.) Did you maybe mean this one?

Haha yes! That's the book I meant. Don't know how that happened! I never heard of that other book and its not on my shelves.

ETA: I know what happened. I copied the number in the URL of my shelf instead of the book. I corrected my original post.

Joan Barnett | 1007 comments I listened to 1.75 hours of Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood today. I'm almost halfway through. I really recommend this audio book. I'm learning about South Africa plus he is funny. He narrates it. I makes it even more fun.

The book is so good! His stories are really funny.

message 79: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1007 comments I started The Light We Lost and it has sucked me in. I'm only a little over 50 pages in but it seems interesting so far. It has short chapters and I tend to read short chapter books quicker. It has a little bit of mystery to it. It's supposed to be a love story but at 50 pages in she's telling you they don't get together so it's intriguing to see what happens.

I thought I was due a love story after reading a zombie and slight horror story.

Marleen | 957 comments It’s a slooow reading week for me so far. Very hectic work days leaving me with not much focus in the evening. But I’ve got a few days off starting Friday so I’m sure it’ll pick up then :)

message 82: by Amy (Other Amy) (new)

Amy (Other Amy) | 629 comments I am very excited. I just found out Jeff VanderMeer announced a fourth book in the Southern Reach series in February. I asked the mods if this now counts as a four book series for the quartet prompt (since the fourth book isn't published yet), and they said it did. So now I get to reread Annihilation for our readathon :-)

message 83: by Marleen (new)

Marleen | 957 comments Oh that’s great Amy! 4book series are pretty rare to find

message 84: by Amy (Other Amy) (new)

Amy (Other Amy) | 629 comments They really are surprisingly rare. Lots of trilogies, but then after that you're in for the long haul with ten or twenty books!

message 85: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1007 comments I've read Annihilation. I have to read the others. They are on my list this year.

message 86: by Amy (Other Amy) (last edited Mar 31, 2021 04:03PM) (new)

Amy (Other Amy) | 629 comments I've attempted Authority twice. The shift in POV character from the first to the second book has been too huge for me, but I'm going to try it again sometime this year. I just don't know if I'll get it done for the readathon. It's weird how my mind just sometimes digs in and yells "No!" with different books in a series. I've read the first book in a single sitting twice though; it's one of my all time favorites.

Joan Barnett | 1007 comments Amy (Other Amy) wrote: "I've attempted Authority twice. The shift in POV character from the first to the second book has been too huge for me, but I'm going to try it again sometime this year. I just don't..."

I did enjoy Annihilation but I feel like I got confused in it. I'm probably going to have to skim it over before I read Authority.

I'm really enjoying The Light We Lost. I usually don't read this much during the week but this book is hard to put down. I haven't read a really sappy one in awhile. It's tastefully done though and different from other books I've read.

Chalmation | 3730 comments Finished The Silver Horse, Braised A New Sherlock Holmes Mystery (New Sherlock Holmes Mysteries Book 16) by Craig Stephen Copland

Amy, I used this for the prompt to read a book with silver in the title. I see that you also have a book for that prompt, but your book also fills another prompt that no one else is reading a book for. But if you want to use my book for another prompt that is no problem.

message 89: by Amy (Other Amy) (last edited Apr 01, 2021 11:28AM) (new)

Amy (Other Amy) | 629 comments I am totally happy that you filled the silver prompt, because I finished my silver book last night and it works for a couple multi book prompts I'm trying to decide on, so that's great.

Finished:
Silver in the Wood (The Greenhollow Duology, #1) by Emily Tesh Drowned Country (The Greenhollow Duology, #2) by Emily Tesh

Edit: I put both of those on the people reading together prompt to finish it, since it not only showed up in both books but played a key part in the plot. If anyone else ends up with a reading scene that would be better to slot here, I can move either of these to other places too. Just let me know. Otherwise, one of our scavenger hunt prompts is done :-)

Willemijn (willemijn_z) | 202 comments Hey guys, I just wanted to let you all know that I haven’t abandoned ship haha. I have had a super busy week, and haven’t been on my laptop much. It’s far too much hassle to update the spreadsheet on my phone, so I’ll make sure to fill in my page count this weekend. (Unless someone wants to add it for me: mon:0 / tue:22 /wed:31)

I haven’t read a lot, but I did manage to get to about 70% in my current book. I should be able to read more over the weekend though.

message 93: by Marleen (new)

Marleen | 957 comments I added your numbers to the sheet Willemijn :)

Wow, great results for week 1 Amy! Including the wildcards we’re over halfway there!

I’m currently busy reading Raising Steam, and have four days off now so I’m hoping to finish this one and start something else this weekend too.

Iton (iton94) | 156 comments I've finished Catch-22. This long weekend I'll try and finish Purple Hibiscus and Mr Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore.

I so know exactly what you mean. Mobile is barely functional even for commenting anymore.

Thank you for that Marleen!

Iton wrote: "I've finished Catch-22. This long weekend I'll try and finish Purple Hibiscus and Mr Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore."

Woohoo! Another one down!

I have finished Across the Green Grass Fields, and I think I'll put it on #14 for the 25 character title, but if other books get done for that prompt I can move it later.

Next up: Annihilation for prompt 23.

oshizu | 5762 comments Hi Dewey Decimators!
How did you enjoy the first week of the readathon?
I took the time to read through your team thread to make sure all is well with your team.

Two comments for future reference:
1) If you notice any spreadsheet mistakes, please report them. After I typed them up, they were never proofread until the readathon went live, so I'm always grateful for corrections.
2) Oh dear, I wish you had reported on Readathon Central that Kelly and Lisa ended up as no-shows. I feel really horrible about my oversight. :(

Your team spirit is fabulous! As long as all the Dewey Decimators are enjoying the readathon and reading more than usual, that's the best that can happen.🧡
Let me know on Readathon Central or via message if there's anything I can do.

Ah, that would have been my misunderstanding. I thought you knew, but I should have followed up. Don't feel too bad; we are holding steady with the other teams on prompts. And we are absolutely having a great time. I haven't read this much in ages.

Thanks for dropping by oshizu :) I think it’s going great, I for one am having a great time and reading more than usual. And I’m chuffed that even though we are two people short, our little easygoing enthusiastic team is still well on our way to finish all the prompts :)

message 100: by Marleen (new)

Marleen | 957 comments I’m still working on Raising Steam here, and will probably finish that tomorrow. (I could have finished today but got distracted by Animal Crossing and chocolate eggs and other fun things...)

Not sure yet what I’ll pick after this one, I’ll have to take a good look at the sheet what we need the most out of my options.

Amy, I was wondering that it would be helpful to remove the x’s from the not-chosen prompts of the finished books, so it’ll be easier to see where the gaps are? I was thinking I could remove the x for those prompts but give the cell a different colour maybe (so the information that that book would work for that prompt is still visible in case anything needs to be moved around).
Let me know what you think? 🤗
