Samuel Best (samuel_best) | 6 comments Hello there, helpful librarians. I was trying to add my newest book to my author profile only to discover a duplicate version of myself with a couple of my books attributed to it. I was hoping to achieve several things:

-move the book "Last Contact" over to my true author name
-delete the duplicate version of "Another World" shown on the false profile
-delete the false profile

Thank you very much for your time and efforts.

True Profile: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

False Profile: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

Last Contact (to be moved): https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

Another World (duplicate, to be deleted): https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

Emily | 17966 comments The duplicate version of yourself is actually another author with your same name. Currently there are three "Samuel Bests" in the database.

Goodreads uses spaces between your first and last names in the author profile fields of your books and your profile in order to differentiate among the authors with the same name. The religious author Samuel Best has the "default" profile. Another author has the two space profile. You have the "three space" profile. I have moved your books to your profile.

Any book that is automatically imported to Goodreads (from Amazon or other sources) automatically lands on the default "one space" profile. It only takes a moment for us to move it to the right one. Alternatively you can add the book from your own profile and it will be there automatically (if it has not imported already). Just tell us you have the "three space" profile.

The duplicate of Another World is actually the paperback edition. I have combined it with the Kindle edition.

Note that for ebooks with ASIN, we use "Kindle" in the format field rather than "ebook." That enables the book record to connect with its page on Amazon.

Samuel Best (samuel_best) | 6 comments Thank you very much, Emily. I really appreciate the detailed response. The information should serve to make the process a lot smoother in the future. I was always curious about the three spaces in my name when adding a book. Now I know not to delete them because they are there for a reason.

Have a great week.

-Samuel
