Continuations - There's become a whole niche of an author's work being continued on after his or her death. Sherlock Holmes and Pride and Prejudice continuations are almost a category in themselves but there's also Sophie Hannah's continuation of Hercule Poirot, David Lagercrantz's continuation of the Stieg Larsson books, I think several authors have worked on continuing the Spenser for Hire books, and Ben Schott now has two books continuing Wodehouse's Jeeves series.

I second wishing for more "happy" books. I struggle with depression and try to avoid "dark" books, as they impact me negatively. Especially in the older, free choices, they seem to be very heavy and serious. But I can't afford to buy a book just for the challenge and only have a tiny local library with not many options. Just my two cents worth. :)

I agree about happy and book cost i have a fabulous library but US books are not well stocked in the UK. I love classics and applaud the use of a classic free book as an option BUT classics are not the best loved by everyone. it is very difficult because AMAZON UK and AMAZON US could have wildly differing price options. I do not think there is an easy fix and I do think the group has tried really hard to find one . BUT a happy cheap option in 2021 would be fab

me too
the only one i'm worried about is the continuation one because if you haven't previously read the series then it could be hard to appreciate the continuation
The ideas gathered from this thread will be used to build a list from which categories will be randomly chosen.
Each season's Group Reads will have 2 fiction categories and 1 non-fiction category. The year's categories will be posted in advance so Group Reads nominators will have time to research and select appropriate books. For more information about the nominating process, please see task 20.10 in the Rewards of the Challenge. As always, polls will be set up each season to choose between the nominated books for that season's Group Reads.
Please include a short definition or description with your suggestion.
