@Michael: no news yet, but maybe after mid year; there were only a few months between the first and the second. I like The Mystery Knight alot and for sure am gonna buy the graphic novel version.
@Silvana- I have yet to actually pick up the stories of Dunk and egg.... I have only read the 2 graphic novels that were released so far... The Hedge Knight and The Hedge Knight 2...... I enjoy not knowing the story before reading the Graphic Novels and the Art work is fantastic..... How many written stories were released so far 3 or 4 and should i hunt down the short stories and read them??? I'm wondering if the short stories have more content then the graphic novels??? whats your opinion? Im thinking of reading the first two short stories because i already read the Graphic Novels and waiting for the other ones..... One more thing (sorry) Where are the Dunk and Egg stories in? is it his short story compilations like Dreamsongs???

I'm glad he cares enough to take his time and write a good book, instead of cashing in on his popularity and just quickly and carelessly pumping out novel after novel. Which would make his publishing company happy, knowing we will buy just about anything he releases at this point. So I'd like to thank him for respecting his own work enough to continue to write at a pace that ends with a good book, that he is proud of and his fans will no doubt love. After all it's the same slow process that brought us "A Song of Ice and Fire", in the first place.
That said, it's killing me.

I dont't know if any of you have read his latest comment on his blog, but George insisted that he is still planing on doing 7 books. How plausible do you think that is? I was just thinking of all the things that have yet to happen and I am wondering how is he going to wrap it all up?
I love how people here try and say, drop the side projects or complain about him having time to write a blog. The guy is a real live human being. With a life and a lot going on, including conferring with the directors of the show. Which technically is a side project, right? Should he stop helping the show as well? He is not a slave, locked in a room until he puts out winds of winter. He is a free man.As far as writing side projects, he's got ideas flowing into him, who knows where they are from, who knows when they will revisit. Any writer can appreciate taking time to finish an idea, when the way you want the project your currently trying to is taking time being written well. It's the creative process of the mind. You can't always direct it. Cut the guy some slack. I just want a good book. He can literally write any drivel and have it out by the end of the week, but he wants it to be something he's proud of. Is that any reason to cut off the rest of his life and make him finish the next book
Sure I'd rather have it now then later. I can totally empathize with that feeling. But good and thorough beats rushed and terrible.
Coupled with the fact he should write what he wants & how he wants. This could be his masterpiece(song of ice and fire), the defining work of his career. He has pride and wants it to represent him as an author...not just pumping out anything. Do you rush Michael Angelo? Do you take a cake out of the oven early? Or do you leave it in until it's just right? If luke skywalker had fired to early, while attacking the deathstar, what do you think people would remember about him? Pretty much nothing. I can go on! Looks like I'll have time before the next book is released. Shall i rant some more?
I can't wait, but I understand Rome wasn't built in a day. I hope he takes his time and is completely satisfied with his book.

Soycd,I think the 7th book will happen, the question is when. I'd imagine he will take another 4-5 years after Winds of Winter to finish out the series. The show will inevitably over take the books.
How he's going to wrap everything up is a good question, because each book has to this point only expanded storylines and of them none of them have a clear endings in site. I think some will wrap up abruptly and surprisingly in an unfortunate Ned Starks fashion. I think other expanding storylines will start to converge. I'm am sure, that he will keep us surprised. Until there is one clear victor. You either win or die in the game of thrones. Some not so subtle foreshadowing for most.

It's his work and he should be able to take as much time as he thinks he needs to complete it in the best way possible. I also rather have the best book possible later and not a mediocre one sooner.
@Michael: it has the same content but I think the artist's interpretation is quite spot on. Only three Dunk & Egg novellas for now but George plans to write more. I have not seen the illustrated three-in-one version since it has yet to be released but I think rather than spending money to buy the anthologies in which the novellas are originally part of (eg Dreamsongs, Warriors), better wait for the compilation. And it is illustrated too.
I will wait forever for this book without complaint. There are a million other books to read. By far my favorite book series Ive ever read
I agree. It's definitely one of my absolute favourite series so I'll wait however long needed. It'll give me a chance to re read the others :D
I'm quite near the end of reading 'War and Peace' and I suddenly wondered... How long did it take Leo Tolstoy to write this masterpiece? Seven years. And now I am pissed. I love A song of ice and fire but excuse me for saying that 'War and Peace' is better. It should take him less time.

A dance with dragons itself took about six or seven years. And it's been 5 or 6 years since the publication of A dance with dragons...

I'm not saying that GRRM is some super-fast writer - he obviously isn't. But comparing one book to seven is sort of pointless.
Well ok. Even though my point was actually that GRRM could write faster as others have done too. Because sometimes when other books are compared, people say the comparison isn't fair as ASOIAF has much more work to do, many characters and so on. So I thought I'd try comparing it with another great book that also had, obviously, a lot of work. However, I guess you're right, as ASOIAF is five books till now. Though speaking of the authors, GRRM's best works are the books of ASOIAF while Leo Tolstoy has others too (like Anna Karenina etc). I mean he made the most of his time.
The problem I feel is George RR Martin has too many projects going on.
I picked up a Game of Thrones in 1999, and thoroughly enjoyed the series since, and have been impatient for further books. But as I see it, I have had much time to read just as good fantasy being released in these years which are as good and if not better than ASOFAI, so move on and read other authors who publish on a better schedule, and don't be so anxious in the next release. Maybe if the traffic to George slows down he would get it. I met GRRM at a fantasy convention when he was roaming the aisles in the dealers room. Back then obviously he was not famous as he is today, and was more concentrating on his efforts and speaking with fans, oh how television can ruin a good thing.
at least with Jordan, if they produce a series, it's finished.

I concurr with you and have followed Sanderson,Hobb, Pat Rothfuss, Lynch and few others but am still impatient for GRRM next book just don't want the series ruined for me bc of a TV show
It seems like a huge oversight by Martin and HBO, surely he knew that he wasn't going to finish the books before the show caught up to them, yet he still went along with it. It looks like he just wanted the money.
Very disappointing :/
