Is it just me or is Carrot the greatest character of all time?

Aksel Erzinclioglu OK, so this is my first Pratchett experience and I appreciate that it is maybe a little early for me to judge so for the purposes of this discussion, I'll simply be referring to this book. For me, Carrot was far and away the best character. I would like to be clear that I think all the characters are amazing and the book, as a whole, was just incredible. I can't wait to read more Pratchett and can very easily see him becoming my favourite author. But first, I just wanted to get this off my chest. I hear so much talk about how Vimes is everyone's favourite and I can see the appear. He is a great character and there's a lot of depth to him, bit for me, Carrot stole the show. I am curious how everyone else feels and wonder if I am perhaps missing something when it comes to Vimes or if I simply haven't read enough. I am in no way saying that Vimes is bad, I really liked him but I absolutely LOVED Carrot. Maybe it's because I will always have a soft spot for the 'muscle' or maybe it's something to do with his child-like innocence that is paired with out and out brute strength and physicality. Maybe it was the utterly heart-warming letters he wrote to his mother throughout the book. I really don't know what it was but I can't wait to read more about him. Also, please no spoilers for things that are to come as, like I said above, this is the only Pratchett I have read so far.

Alex Verrall Personally I preferred vimes. Carrot is naturally gifted at everything he does and at to.es dosent even seem to have to try.

Vines on the other hand begins as a traumatised washed up wreck that claws his way back to making a difference.

The fact he maintains his principles despite his inner demons and troubled past make him far more compelling for me.

That's a good point actually, I hadn't really thought about it like that. Not going to change my opinion on Carrot though. I just have so much time for the big man! But yeah, I agree that on a certain level, Carrot doesn't need to work as hard in order to achieve

Cris Carrot was the breakout sensation in Guards! Guards! There are more Pratchett books to discover (Carrot and Vimes are in some of them). One of the great things about Pratchett's work is how nuanced his characters are and how the characters grow and change over time. Read the rest of the Watch stories and enjoy them!

Chris Carrot is lots of fun, but like Alex, I prefer Vimes. I like how imperfect he is, and yet he struggles on.

One of the most hilarious things to me, is watching Vimes reporting to the Patrician.

Mbuye Vimes, though Death and Gaspode are not far behind. Carrot is lovely but perfect...
