Jim Naughton This tale of slavery in the era just before the Civil War is mesmerizingly good. Jim McBride writes with lyricism and grace about a shameful era and tells it in all its complexity. It's a fast read, a good read, a great read.

K.Denae Men,she thought bitterly. They run the world to sin then wonder why the world wakes up every morning sucking sorrow. - Miss Kathleen

Bridget I enjoyed this book very much and some scenes still come to life in my mind.
