Now I'm glad I finally got to read this book and meet this divine new world. This book is so different to all I've read before. Not a new genre but a new side of one of my favourite genre which is magical realism.
(view spoiler)

This is my first time reading a book with a Mexican setting, but I was already vaguely aware of the Mayan mythology, even if I never remembered most of the details (like names, stories, all that important stuff haha). So it's all new to me but with a vague recognition, I guess?
I must confess, I tried starting this a long while back and ended up putting it down (for reasons not related to it) and never got back to it. I am soooo glad I finally got round to trying it again xD
Also, I'm really enjoying the author's writing style. I'm really tempted to pick up Mexican Gothic right after this.

*insert silent squealing here*

I am now officially terrified of how this is all going to end.

It's not so much depressing as it is... realistic. There's another word I could use but I think that would make what happened obvious. I both loved and hated it.
I definitely support the idea of looking for a light-hearted book, even if you don't start it until after. I said I was going to pick up Mexican Gothic right after this one... but I could probably do with something light / funny to cleanse the palate, so to speak.

I'll admit I did think the demon appearing at the end felt like it kind of popped of out nowhere but thinking on it, I rather like the idea of them going on what's basically a roadtrip together. It gives a nice sense of future adventure / what-would-happen-next.

Are you planning on reading any more books by the author?
