MountainKat | 31593 comments I think most of you know each other, at least a little, but feel free to introduce yourself again. Please give any relevant information, especially time zone as that helps know when it is best to communicate. 😊

Please select a team leader to help keep track of where your team is in any given task. And as necessary guide discussions for task decisions. Any teammate can report your completions though.

Remember, it is the team's responsibility to notify the host (me) if a teammate fails to complete the task in a timely manner or otherwise goes missing! I am not checking all the team threads regularly to notice and may only check when notified a task is complete.

PS - If you want to be known as anything other than Team 13, you are free to come up with a team name. 😉

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments Hi everyone I'm looking forward to playing this with you guys. Shelby and I were on the same team last year and it was quite fun. With that said - I'm more about having fun then winning (although I'm a little competitive so I don't like to be in last place) :)

I'm one of the few people that doesn't work from home this year so I don't have as much reading time as past years although I've been doing a lot more audio books since I can listen sometimes while working. I'm retired from the military and the single mom of two high school kids.

I read primarily M/M although I still read some M/F Fantasy authors and my all time favorite author is still Ilona Andrews. As for M/M I love paranormal, fantasy, and suspense the most but I can find just about any category except YA. I'm just too damn old to really enjoy a YA book!

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments There are a few categories it helps to decide before we start so I'll throw out my suggestions and you guys can as well:

Everyone reads a book by the same author:
Eli Easton
NR Walker
Hailey Turner
Josh Lanyon
Rhys Ford
Pandora Pine
Jordan Castillo Price
K.M. Neuhold
Megan Derr
K.J. Charles

Read a book from the same series
Dead Speak (Cold Case Psychic #1) by Pandora Pine Absolution (The Protectors, #1) by Sloane Kennedy P.S. I Spook You (The Spectral Files, #1) by S.E. Harmon Black Dog Blues (Kai Gracen, #1) by Rhys Ford Fish Out of Water (Fish Out of Water, #1) by Amy Lane The Hitman's Guide to Making Friends and Finding Love (The Hitman's Guide, #1) by Alice Winters Pieces of You (Missing Pieces, #1) by N.R. Walker Changing Lines (Harrisburg Railers, #1) by R.J. Scott Facing West (Forever Wilde, #1) by Lucy Lennox

Each person read a book where the MC is in the same profession
Cops/Detective
Bodyguard
Professional Hockey Player

Read a book in the same sub genre
I believe M/M is a sub genre of Romance but we'd have to get that confirmed
Paranormal is a sub genre of Fantasy
Crime is a sub genre of Mystery

Set in the same location
New York
UK (London)
California

Same Color Cover
Black
Blue
White

Set in someone's hometown
Mine is Arizona which isn't the easiest

Set in Same country (not US)
UK
Australia

A List with over 100 books on it
M/M Romance Group Members Choice Winners
Favorite Gay Couples
The Best of Gay Romance
Can't Wait M/M Romance of 2020

Read a book in the year a teammate joined this group
- I joined in 2015

books written by an author whose first or last name begins with the first letter of a teammate's screen name.
Choices are D, S, R or A
I like any of them but mine :)

Read 6 books not set on a continent of a teammate.
I vote we use Ryland who is in Europe so we can read any book set in North America and so many books are set in the U.S.

Read 4 books published in the decade of a teammate's birth, team decides which teammate.
We want the youngest person and I guarantee that isn't me!

Read 6 books that have the same romance trope, teams decide which trope.
Friends to Lovers
Mates
Fake Relationship
Gay For You
May/December
First Time Gay
Hurt/Comfort
Out For You

As a team, pick a Romance List from GR Listopia with less than 100 books on it, each teammate reads a book from that list. No pass for this task.
Can't Wait M/M Romance of 2021
M/M Romance Published in 2021
Best M/M Book of the Year 2020

As a team, select an animal. Read 8 books tagged with that animal.
Wolf is definitely the easiest
Horse
Bear

Each teammate lists 5 favorite books. Select books from 2 different teammates and read them. AND recommended by team mate (I'll post mine tomorrow for this but it's getting late and I need to go to bed).
If you are like me you have a lot more than 5 favorite books so it helps if you look at the TBR's of other team mates and pick some favorites that are on their TBR. Also remember books must be 150 pages long so no recommendations that are too short but we also don't really want to recommend really long books either.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments Also we need a team captain (I can do it unless someone else wants to). A team name as well (I like having a team name but I'm not good at thinking of them). But since we are an M/M team the only ones I can think of are:

Stiff Competition
Rainbow Dashers
Touch My Shelf
Racing down the Happy Trail
Getting Lucky
Cumming in First
Buns on the Run
Off Like a Prom Dress
Ibuprofen and Ben Gay
Blew Past You

message 8: by Ryland (last edited Mar 09, 2021 11:28PM) (new)

Ryland (rylandreads) | 42 comments Hey there! I'm Ryland. Nice to meet you guys.

I go through books really (really) quickly. I decided to join this challenge because I'm falling into a reading slump and I need more to read, but can't decide myself because nothing is sounding good right now.

I'm looking forward to exploring new books with you guys :)

Here are my suggestions

Everyone reads a book by the same author:
Eli Easton
NR Walker
Rhys Ford
K.M. Neuhold
Riley Hart
Ella Frank

Read a book from the same series
as long as it's not mystery/cops i'm good with about anything. there are tons of series i've been wanting to read. here are a few
Collide (Blackcreek, #1) by Riley Hart Robbie (Confessions, #1) by Ella Frank Try (Temptation, #1) by Ella Frank

Each person read a book where the MC is in the same profession
please god no cops, anything but cops. we can do dancers (tons of books with dancers) and then there's mechanics or writers and those should be easy to find as well.
There's this list for athletes/coaches, and they have one for each year.
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
Here's the list for performing/visual arts, so artists, dancers, etc.
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Read a book in the same sub genre
we could read a contemporary m/m romance for this one.

Set in the same location
this one should be easy, we just need to pick a place. new york seems like it would be easy. LA too. and London.

Same Color Cover
very easy - my vote is for grey, lots of authors recently, especially in the mm genre, have been going for the monochrome covers with bright script text. here are some examples -
Let Me In (The Boys Club #1) by Luna David Beautiful & Terrible Things by Riley Hart Touch the Sky (Free Fall #1) by Christina Lee The One Decent Thing by Eliot Grayson Love Always by Riley Hart Elements of Retrofit (Thomas Elkin, #1) by N.R. Walker

Set in someone's hometown
My hometown is in Alaska so yeah... probably not the easiest one.

Set in Same country (not US)
UK, Canada

A List with over 100 books on it
Nearly anything is fine with me, just no mystery/cops please

Read a book in the year a teammate joined this group
- I joined two days ago, so 2021

books written by an author whose first or last name begins with the first letter of a teammate's screen name.
Choices are D, S, R or A
I like any of them but mine :)
Gives us Riley Hart, Annabelle Jacobs, Nash Summers, Roe Horvat, idk I'm just going through my tbr and picking authors. Any of these would be pretty easy.

Read 6 books not set on a continent of a teammate.
I think this is implying that it can't be set on any of the continents any of us live on? Otherwise, I'm good with anything in terms of finding books in certain settings.

Read 4 books published in the decade of a teammate's birth, team decides which teammate.
I'm a 1995 baby, so idk. Hoping to god someone here is younger than me

Read 6 books that have the same romance trope, teams decide which trope.
Friends to Lovers
Mates
Fake Relationship
Enemies to Lovers
Straight to Gay
I love tropes, wont be disappointed by really anything we choose.

As a team, pick a Romance List from GR Listopia with less than 100 books on it, each teammate reads a book from that list. No pass for this task.
I'm fine with any of the previously mentioned ones

As a team, select an animal. Read 8 books tagged with that animal.
That's two votes for wolf

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments Hey everyone. :) Ryland it's great to see you joining us. As previously mentioned Danielle and I have played this game together before and I know I've been on teams with AnnMarie in the past as well. I'm probably the easiest one as far as things go when it comes to selecting categories and the like. I'll read anything. So unless it's a series I've finished completely or a book I've already read I'm happy to go along with the group with most things.

I'm out in Los Angeles so PST and since I bartend I'm often up super late and generally check GR before I go to bed so if we need completions posted I'll usually be the last one up. :)

Some me specifics..
Hometown: Washington State
Decade: I'm an 80's baby.

Just a heads up I might be a little incommunicado Mon/Tues of next week as I'm on set for an industrial those two days. Generally that means long days and just plain exhaustion when I get home. But since set is only a few minutes from my house for once maybe it won't be too bad. I know the first category is supposed to be posted that day so I'll do my best to check in and figure out what I'm reading asap. Luckily I read pretty fast so it shouldn't have us behind to start off since categories can only be called every other day.

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments As for team names I'm also happy to go with anything the team likes as a whole, but I have to say for some silly reason I was drawn to Danielle's "Buns on the Run" suggestion.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments Ryland,

Sounds like you read mostly contemporary (which I don't read as much of) but these are a few authors with a lot of books that are contemporary we could look at for authors/series:

Layla Reyne
Sloane Parker
Lily Morton
Lucy Lennox
Leigh Garrett
Amy Lane

We'll also see what suggestions AnnMarie has.

I asked on Q&A and that is what it means - so we can't use North America or Europe (The UK counts as Europe). I think we should use Australia since it's fairly easy to find things set there. NR Walker books are almost always set in Australia along with a few other authors.

Pickings are slim here. I am not a Yaoi fan and I imagine more than a few are out of print. The few I checked that are available in ebook are long.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments Hopefully we won't get the read a book in the decade a teammate was born because 1990 is the earliest we have! Out of the over 3,000 M/M books on all my shelves none were published in the 90's. I might have to read an M/F book if we get that category!

I've read all 5 of the books you picked as your favorite AnnMarie so looks like we have similar tastes.

Read a book from the same series – Do we need to find series that have at least 4 books so we all read a different one or can more that one of us read the same book in a series?

9. Each player reads a book in the same series, teams decide. Can read the same book for this one
82. Each teammate reads a different book from the same series. Series needs at least 4 books

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments Each teammate lists 5 favorite books. Select books from 2 different teammates and read them. AND recommended by team mate).
The House in the Cerulean Sea
Frog
Upside Down
The Last Sun
Tigers & Devils

Recommended by a teammate can be more than 5 books. You can use a shelf - like favorite or 5 star reads so that we have a lot more choices. Which is nice since for example I have read all 5 books AnnMarie listed as her favorites. These are two different tasks:

12. Read a book recommended to you by a teammate - no pass for this task.
99. Each teammate lists 5 favorite books. Select books from 2 different teammates and read them.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments For Books in a series I would rather do Crossroads if we are going to do a Riley Hart series.

Ella Frank is hit and miss for me but I haven't read the last book in the Temptation Series so I'd be okay with that one. I don't want to do Robbie because it's a spinoff of the Temptation Series and I'm weird about hating to read books out of order :)

Here a couple other suggestions I'd like everyone's thoughts on:
The Fall - Love in O'Leary
Absolution - The Protectors
Pieces of You - Missing Pieces (depending on which one - this series only has 3 books so far)
Clutch - Forbidden Desires
Out in the Deep - Out in College
Intoxicating - Elite Protection Services

Let me know any of these that are missing and I will add the info so it's all in one place: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Birth Month - Ryland
Top Five Books - Shelby/Ryland
Recommendation Shelf - Shelby/Ryland/AnnMarie Shelf must have 10 books per the Q&A and the more the better for those choosing

I prefer series books so I'll think on some that have at least 4 entries. Off the top of my head I can think of:

Infected by Andrea Speed
THIRDS by Charlie Cochet
Soulbound by Hailey Turner
Love in O'Leary by May Archer*
Men of Halfway House by Jaime Reese*

I believe can be read out of order for the most part

I loved The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune Frog by Mary Calmes The Last Sun (The Tarot Sequence, #1) by K.D. Edwards

The other two were just okay for me.

I'm saving the new Soulbound book for just such a spot as this challenge. It's the only one I haven't read too. :D

As far as series go...
I'm complete on:
Crossroads
Infected
Thirds
The Spectral Files

In the middle of:
Soulbound (1 Book)
Men of Halfway House (1 Book)
The Protectors
Pieces of You
Confessions (1 Book)
Fish Out of Water (1 Book)

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments We need a team name - anyone else have any suggestions or anything they like? If not we will go with Buns on the Run that Shelby liked.

I can't figure out how to find a list of ALL the tags from the beta layout. There's also no easy way to update your progress or fix a reading/finish date.

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments For these series I'm on:

Soulbound (Book 6)

I am fine with this.

Buns on the Run sounds good to me

When you get a chance can you give us a recommendation shelf (Must have at least 10 books). Your favorite 5 books of all time, and the month of your birthday.

Thanks!

Yep. All those things. I usually never respond to the requests for feedback. This time I sent them a long email about all the reasons I hate it.

For recommendation shelf are you using your favorite shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list..."

Sure. There's a mix of options in there. :)

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments Oh - I totally misunderstood the recommendation task. It's actually a task where you can give your teammates a shelf and then they pick one book off that shelf that you need to read for that task. That's why there must be 10 books. So I need a shelf of books you want to read that someone could pick one off of!

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments Here we go!

Task 1: For EVERY TEAM!

With St. Patricks Day coming up, everyone is Irish! As a team select whether you are going to read books set in Ireland OR books with an Irish character OR books with a primarily green cover. Each teammate must read a book that fits the qualification selected, no pass for this task.

Please include the team selected qualification in your completion posts. Remember you need to include how you know your book qualifies! I need to know where to look to confirm your book, include any info or links as necessary. If choosing the primarily green cover, it needs to be over 50% green to be accepted. Don’t forget to use the first edition Kindle page count!

AnnMarie (am_fasano) | 503 comments So which do we want to do? I think green cover is easiest but I can make either of the other 2 options work.

Shelby (stang_lee) | 1970 comments I can make any of them work too. :)

Danielle Gypsy Soul (afdaniellet) | 1083 comments I agree green cover is the easiest. I could find a book with an Irish character as well but I say let's go with an easy one to find and say green cover.

M/M Romance with mostly green covers"

I checked that list earlier and I was surprised at how many covers I thought would be 50% green were not anywhere close to that so check that tinyeye site :) That said I have a book picked for green cover and one for Irish/Ireland so I am good with any choice.
