Thanks for hosting this readalong. I bought the Joy Harjo book today. My hope is to get the Mary Oliver book from the library. I look forward to the upcoming book discussions.
I thought I'd come up with a rough readalong schedule too, with 5/8 as the finished-by date.
You can take more time than this if that works better for you.
Blessing, Intro, Northeast and Midwest
1-98
April 4-10
Plains and Mountains
99-170
April 11-17
Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and Pacific Islands
171-265
April 18-24
Southwest and West
267-355
April 25-May 1
Southeast, Outro, Acknowledgements
357-423
May 2-8
I'll post discussion boards for each week, when we get there.

I know the official schedule says we start reading April 4 but I think my treat to myself to kick off National Poetry month tomorrow (April 1) will be to get started. I've waited long enough!!

Hey all, I was poking around the poetry books in the Libby app yesterday and saw that When the Light of the World Was Subdued, Our Songs Came Through: A Norton Anthology of Native Nations Poetry is in there, so if you have access to Libby from your public library, it's worth checking out.
Also a sidenote, I have found better layouts from reading poetry in the Libby app than having it show up in Kindle, but maybe it would be okay. If you try it, report back!

In a second attempt, I posted a poll to select a time for our discussion of the anthology and bonus Mary Oliver read.
I hope we don't end up with two polls because I thought I made one the other day, but it seemed to disappear.

Okay! I have called it and we will discuss the anthology, the bonus Mary Oliver if anyone has read it (it's okay if I just save that for chatting with the Book Cougars) and just.... poetry in general! 4 pm EST on Saturday, May 8. I will post a link close to that time right here in this thread.
I hope you will come even if you didn't read the entire thing! It will be super casual.

Here is the Zoom info for the 4 pm discussion on May 8th. The focus will be on the anthology itself. If you read the Mary Oliver poetry handbook too, you get a gold star, but it isn't required. (And if you've studied poetry at all, many of the concepts in that book will be familiar!)
I hope to see some of you there! It's daunting to approach discussing the entire anthology so we will simply do our best.
Jenny Colvin is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
