Fabitha (fabitha89) | 575 comments Also, the writing was extremely beautiful and the concept mindblowing. I was really torn between 4 and 5 stars but I'd have liked just a little bit more explanation on what was going on on a larger scale, how it all started ecc even if I reckon it wasn't necessary for the story. It's a 5- actually.

Erica | 1309 comments Finally I've completed a book that actual earns me points. I'm actually competing now. ;)

Is the book "How you Lose the Time War" really that good? I bought it and never read it... I think I should start on it pretty soon after reading this..

message 54: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1309 comments I think so. I just got my sister to finally read it this past week too. I’ve been telling her since I read it over a year ago. It’s a time travel love story told in letters.

I hope you enjoy it! I sure have! I just finished buddy read Who Fears Death (which is definitely adult btw) and I'm obsessed all over again with Nnedi Okorafor <3

Erica | 1309 comments Yeah I’m thinking she’s going to be one of those authors that I try and read everything by. She’s got creativity galore.

Fabitha (fabitha89) | 575 comments I'm on the same path! :D

Erica | 1309 comments I finished Dune. I'm free!!! 😁😁😁

I did like this but it is high concept and I was losing patience with the end and appendixes.
I love that this society revolves around spice which is basically cinnamon, which I am obsessed with. I was rather slow on the uptake that it took the appendix for me clue into Herbert's commentary on environmentalism. 🤦‍♀️ Can't wait to watch the craptacular movie with Sir Patrick Stuart!

Finally! It seems like it's a tough book 🙄

Erica | 1309 comments It was. Herbert creates a complex new system of worlds and religions. There are many terms that take a bit to absorb and understand. I understand why it is a classic.

Oh! Well I am glad you finally got through the book, I was beginning to think you'll DNF it... lol

Erica | 1309 comments But you see the tbr challenge is helpful to use my competitiveness to make sure I finish books I start. :) I really did enjoy the book but I'm very much a mood reader so I have a bad habit of starting many books and not finishing them.

Oh right...np, I also tend to read multiple books at a time, whatever suits the mood..

Fabitha (fabitha89) | 575 comments Yay, Erica!
I honestly believe Dune is a masterpiece of sci-fi, nothing's ever been the same after. You may also recall another very famous planet with deserts and sand people...they even have a class of people who can see into the future XD when I read Dune the first time I was already a big Star Wars fan and I was like...oh. OH. I'm not say it's plagiarism, for they are very different, but it sure is a clear reference imho.

I have to say I didn't enjoy Lynch's film (despite Sir Stewart whom I love dearly and is a marvelous actor), but my hype is high for Villeneuve's one, the cast look spot on and the glimpses of Arrakis were...wow.

I am a little stuck with Addie LaRue...I don't know why but it's not clicking yet. I'm debating to put it on hold because I also want to read the first Grisha trilogy before the Netflix show airs!

Erica | 1309 comments I've been warned about the old Dune movie and I still want to see it before seeing, what is hopefully awesome, the new one. Star wars vibes are strong.

I like Schwab's books but she constantly jumps in time and characters just when things get interesting so I totally understand if it doesn't click for you. I read her first book and it was a slog for that very reason.

I'm currently reading Rule of Wolves so I fully support reading the original trilogy before the netflix. Fyi no Kaz and crew in it although they do show up in Nikolai's duology. :) You definitely need to read the originals before the duology though.

For what it's worth, I also need to read Shadow and Bone before the show airs...

Fabitha (fabitha89) | 575 comments Well, yes I had to see it too! On paper it was perfect, David Lynch, Patrick Stewart, Toto's soundtrack (one of my favorite bands ever), a powerful story from one of my favorite books, yet it was awfully boring for me XD Still, I hope you enjoy it, I know people who absolutely loved it and watch it frequently so it's very much a possibility as well!

Also thanks for the warning about Grisha! ;) I don't know if I'm allowed to write it here but seeing it's close and maybe some other people didn't read it maybe we can buddy read it or smth? (Mods, if it's OT I'll edit it out u___u that's my second time proposing a buddy read ever lol I don't know the etiquette)
