I have finished the first draft of my first novel, and my biggest tip is to persevere. And don’t edit along the way. If you edit along the way, you’ll get burnt out. Also, don’t plan out everything in your book from the start. Get a vague idea of everything, but just write what you want. If you have everything in mind, it gets REALLY boring. With my novel, I knew how it was going to begin and end and the vague idea of how paths would collide, but I had no clue of good plot twists and backstory. It did keep me up late at night thinking, but those were the moments where I couldn’t stop smiling because I loved the idea so much. Then come the next morning, I would write it all down into my story! Boom! Another chapter! That’s how you keep going. You think up new ideas along the way. And everyone, YOUR FIRST DRAFT IS NOT YOUR ONLY DRAFT, so if you get new ideas after you write the first draft, GREAT!!! That’s awesome! So just persevere! You got this!!!!!!!

And if any established authors want to give me any advice here or you can PM me also! That would make my day!
My two biggest tips are to take creative writing courses in college and to listen to music to help you get in the mood of the story. Some community colleges have creative writing courses and they're less expensive than the normal colleges/universities. I took one and it was really helpful

I'd also recommend a writing workshop. While I haven't actually done one, I'd imagine it would help with different writing techniques and the like!

You can also always take online writing courses through Reedsy! They’re free and so thorough with good advice from reliable sources!

Yep! I’ve never done a MadterClass for that reason, so if you’re looking for a good free option, Reedsy will provide it! They have quality and experienced people writing the courses, so you don’t have to worry about them telling you something that isn’t true! It’s a great way to learn:)

Hey everyone :)I wrote a short prose fiction for a Uni application, and wanted feedback on it.
I was wondering if any of you would like to read it and give me some feedback on it.
I'm worried it's not like "university level" writing. But at the same time I shouldn't worry about that cause it's for a creative writing degree.
Anyway if any of you are interested, send me a message and I'll send you the google docs.

I posted this in the What's Shakin', Bacon thread, but if you didn't see if, I’m willing to read it for you! :)
I can’t pm you since your account is private, so just pm me instead; my account is public!

Aspiring Authors,
Ask the authors your questions! What do you want to know? What could help you take the step from being an "aspiring" author to an "actual" author?
