Ok, well, I certainly enjoyed the ending... it was good. Look, I haven’t read many mysteries at all, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it seemed smart and interesting and I thought it was pretty cool. I liked the characters and their interactions between one another. Also, there were a lot of shocking plot twists that were definitely pretty well executed. Look, I’m going to have to sleep on this one, as I’m feeling about a 3.5, so whether to round up or down, I haven’t decided.

guppy (guppyme) | 7 comments I'm just going to put my thoughts for the whole book here because I didn't gauge my reaction every 30 chapters :) . This gave me a real Knives Out vibe (might've been the whole mansion, inheritance, possibly murderous family) and I strongly suggest listening to the String Quartet in G minor on the soundtrack, it just oozes whimsical fancy mansion with a little sprinkle of murder and dark secrets. But back to the book! As much as I enjoyed the plot, THE PUZZLES, OH THE PUZZLES and the clever little twists and turns, some of them were a little anticlimactic, and I felt like by the end, I still didn't quite know who Avery was as a character. She leaned a little too much towards plot device territory for me, ironically like the glass ballerina and knife that kept coming up (maybe that was the author's intention idk?). But in all honesty, this was just a really fun book, maybe not an unforgettable one, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Happy to see that you largely enjoyed it! But yeah, I totally agree with you that I quite liked the mystery aspect, but I didn't really connect or get Avery or that well either. Also agree with you that it was fun, and now that it has been a few weeks since I read it, I can say it hasn't been memorable for me - I've hardly thought about it since I finished it.

Sad sad. But it certainly got me out of my reading slump and made me want to watch Knives Out again, so a win-win situation!
