By Book or By Crook (Lighthouse Library Mystery #1) by Eva Gates By Book or By Crook

For ten years Lucy has enjoyed her job poring over rare tomes of literature for the Harvard Library, but she has not enjoyed the demands of her family’s social whorl or her sort-of-engagement to the staid son of her father’s law partner. But when her ten-year relationship implodes, Lucy realizes that the plot of her life is in need of a serious rewrite.

Calling on her aunt Ellen, Lucy hopes that a little fun in the Outer Banks sun—and some confections from her cousin Josie’s bakery—will help clear her head. But her retreat quickly turns into an unexpected opportunity when Aunt Ellen gets her involved in the lighthouse library tucked away on Bodie Island.

Julesy | 410 comments I read the first 4 books in this series. Although the lighthouse library is a total figment of the author's imagination (i.e., it truly does not exist), you can't help but love this idea. Lighthouses + library = win/win! However, after the 4th book, I lost interest. Cannot place my finger on it, but my book club also grew weary of this series and didn't want to read and discuss them anymore. The first book is fabulous and the next few were good, too.

I am so glad to hear that, at least the first few were good. I am like you: Lighthouse + Library = win/win! Since I have to go through our Interlibrary Loan program at our local library, I wanted to be certain (I was pretty sure I would) I would like the series! Thanks!

Meg (makeli2) | 1542 comments I've read the first four, as well, and enjoyed them. I have the 5th on the tbr; it'll be awhile before I'll be able to get to it but I will.

MadameZelda | 651 comments I don't mind this series at all. I felt the series start to lose some flavor, but picked up later. Since it is a fast read and free for me from the library, I'll continue to read.

Patricia Espejo | 9 comments I enjoyed this book very much. As a school librarian, I can appreciate how Lucy felt about the library and the books within its walls. I love the idea of a library in a lighthouse. How unique! It was an easy read book, and I will definitely go on to read more in the series.

Lea Day | 51 comments I enjoyed this book a lot. I picked it up at the real Bodie Lighthouse museum last summer to help keep the lighthouse going during its shutdown. I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Will getting the next one to read.

I really liked this book. It’s my first time reading an Eva Gates book. I’d give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ because there were some inconsistencies that took me out of the story. However, it was interesting, fun and I didn’t figure out who the killer was until the MC, Lucy, did.
#2 Booked for Trouble by Eva Gates
I finished Booked for Trouble March 21, 2021. I will definitely be reading more in this series
