Are there books that are like or similar to the Matrix trilogy or like Inception?

I'm not sure exactly what elements you're looking for from the Matrix or Inception, but Incarceron might fit the bill. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
more kind of dream world type from Inception but the alternative reality thing Matrix asks for. Definitely checking out your recommend though. also Googled some to see what is out there
I thought Wired by Liz Maverick was similar to the matrix. Main character is a programmer who has some sort of conspiracy centred around her existence similar to Neo, and the world has glitches caused by time travel resulting in the world shifting into alternate versions of itself. It's a romance and kind of pulpy though, if that's a deal breaker and you want something less cheesy.

Not a book, but the 1973 short story "Wake up to Thunder" by Dean Koontz. You can find it in the anthology: Children of Infinity: Original Science Fiction Stories for Young Readers by Roger Elwood.
Reality not being what it's supposed to be is a recurring theme in Philip K Dick novels, for example: Time Out of Joint, A Maze of Death, Ubik.
The short story collection Restricted Fantasies by Kevin Kneupper has a bunch of stories about simulated realities and how they might be used/misused.Daddy's World by Walter Jon Williams is about a boy living in a simulated world who is "not allowed to grow up".
HP Lovecraft wrote a number of stories set in fantastical "dream lands", including the novella The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath.
TV Tropes has a lot of possible examples under Lotus-Eater Machine and Dream Land.
Greg Egan has a couple interesting looks at alternate reality or ways of looking at reality. Permutation City is a good one with some themes that are similar to the Matrix.
