Lance and Morgan get Rylee’s help to locate Evan, only to discover Tina being held at gunpoint by Aaron Martin. Your thoughts about that scene at the lake, including the fight between Aaron and Lance?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments When we first saw Aaron Martin holding Tina and Rylee at gunpoint, I figured that he had followed Tina to the lake in order to kill her. At that time, I still didn't believe that he was Paul's killer.

As far as the fight between Aaron and Lance, it was exciting. I thought they both may be swept downstream.

I was sure Aaron was Paul’s killer in this moment because he was the one chasing Evan. But, I still didn’t know why. I was sure it was more than just killing a witness.

The scene at the river was exciting, though I had trouble visualizing everything going on.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1812 comments The climax and resolution of the book are exciting.

That said, the revelation of Aaron as the killer is inconsistent with some of the events in the book. First and foremost, why didn't he shoot Lance in the barn when he had the chance?

I don’t think he knew who Lance was. He was only killing people when he needed to.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments Aaron was a loose cannon. He hated his sister and knew that his failure to produce a grandson for his father made him hate the heir apparent to the crime family.

I find myself hoping Evan can escape his mother's harmful attitudes as he grows into a man. Having Lance as a mentor is good to offset her.

Yeah, Tina won’t make anybody’s mother of the year.

I still have a problem with this. Aaron and Lance's fight was quite violent and given Aaron's personality, it would make more sense if he had killed Lance. I really think that Leigh's original intention was for the killer to be Brian Springer who would have hesitated to kill a former cop.

You make a good point. I recall being surprised that he didn’t kill him.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3485 comments The fight between Lance and Aaron was tense for me. I don't know why but it didn't surprise me that Lance wasn't killed. Now, after reading these comments, it would make more sense if he was killed.
