Lance takes a lot of risks in this story, first searching Jake’s guardian’s barn and then Brian Springer’s house. Were they reasonable risks because of Evan being in peril or should he have exercised more caution?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I think Lance could have talked to Steve Duncan and asked him if he could search the barn. He was Jake's guardian and knew Jack was good friends with Evan. But, maybe Steve would have said "no". Maybe it's easier to do it without asking.

In the case of Brian Springer, I was sure they were going to find him dead in his house after the neighbors mentioned that he hadn't dropped off his house key and they hadn't seen him. I think in this case Lance had good reason to enter the house.

Good points, Robin. I agree his searching of the barn alone was foolhardy but there was sufficient enough reason to search Brian’s house. I thought he was dead, too.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1801 comments I agree that that wasn't the smartest move on Lance's part. He seemed to be distracted possibly because of his concern over Morgan not setting a wedding date.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments Yes, Lance did seem more distracted than usual. When he ducked around that car obviously watching the place with the barn, I don't know why he assumed it was a police presence when the forces were stretched so thin.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Lance was distracted for most of the book. He usually has more sense on the previous cases.
