so: (tgw series spoilers for all 3 books)
(view spoiler)[as you know i adored the first two books. the characters were amazing, the plot was great, i got so many soc vibes. just fantastic. meaning i had high hopes for the last book. unfortunately it wasn't great. the whole lyre plot became a mess.

first of all, ruslan being dead then not dead and then dead again? i assume? he just... vanished after the whole light-power-meeting-god-thing. the falling house storyline just got dropped, same as everything with the order. the mcs faced literally no consequences for anything. also, the light-power-meeting-god-thing in general - i really didn't like that, it felt way too underexplained and smooth.

and don't even get me started on the forging just disappearing. what even was that? the whole magical system just vanished. the setting wasn't that descriptive, apart from the exposition in the first book it could have been set in any century, and the forging wasn't explained much but that didn't set me off up until this point because this is a character-focused series. but here it was bad.

speaking of characters, what the hell was the ending for laila? i hated that. and séverin being ageless and waiting for her... no thanks, that's just not my cup of tea. zofia's storyline didn't end "enough", if you know what i mean. we don't know what she's up to or anything. i still like her and séverin best though.

plot-wise it was nothing new in comparison to the first books. it still gave me some of that thrill but not enough. i gave it 3 stars.

yesss i just read it and commented! it could have been the perfect trilogy, but unfortunately it isn't. of course at this point i have to say that my favorite trilogy is and will always be the poppy war...
