Hi everyone! I'm thinking about our next collection of reads, and considering a collection of collections :) I thought it might be fun to read some short stories. And since our last group of books were set in cold and snow to take us through the winter, it might also be fun to focus on spring and summer and some of the things associated with them.

I've found some books, a couple with unusual topics, that might align nicely. In April and May, we have the start of baseball, and the Kentucky Derby. And, as summer is always a great time to travel, the last three books involve mayhem during cruises, summer vacations, and exotic trips. Considering these themes, I propose this collection of short stories .

Murderers' Row: Baseball Mysteries - edited by Otto Penzler (365 p)

Murder at the Racetrack - edited by Otto Penzler (384 p)

Death Cruise: Crime Stories on the Open Seas - edited by Lawrence Block (408 p)

...And the Dying is Easy - edited by Joseph Pittman, Annette Riffle (400 p)

Murder Intercontinental: Twenty Tales of Murder in Exotic Places - edited by Cynthia Mason and Kathleen Halligan (448 pgs)

If we do a book a month, these will take us through August. Some appear a bit hard to find, so I thought I'd put this out there now, to determine if folks are interested, and, if so, to give us plenty of time to get our hands on these books.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!
Lisa

Otto Penzler is great. In December I read Christmas at The Mysterious Bookshop and LOVED it.

Bruce | 3263 comments I’d be interested, although I’ll have to see if I can find them or some of them.

My library has 3 of them in either physical or e-book, so yours might too. Also, Abe Books seems to have most of them used, ranging from $3 - $7. Death Cruise is expensive, but there's a paperback on Amazon for less. I might buy them and donate them to the library when done, unless they're keepers :)

Those sound like fun. I read Christmas at the Mysterious Bookshop and really enjoyed it. I'll have to see if my library has the other books.

I have a question about Murder's Row. My library doesn't have it and on Amazon there are 2 different volumes. Are we reading volume 1?

Hi Sheri - well, this is weird - Goodreads only lists Vol 2. I can't find Vol 1 in the database at all. Vol 2 also appears to be a cassette tape. Vol 1 seems to contain all of the authors that Vol 2 has, plus more. Is Vol 2 just an abridged cassette release?

I was thinking we'd read Vol 1; that's the one I found on Abe Books for $4.

I was able to get the first book through my library...they were able to acquire it through another state library.
