Katja Vartiainen | 11 comments Hi, my name is Katja, and I am glad to join the group!
I have a question:
I am looking for a book- if it has been written- about a future society where the internet is controlled- but the illusion of freedom prevails. As a person might think they are to be found on the web, but actually , people are ranked according to their merits etc and get exposure accordingly? Has somebody written this kind of thing? At least being part of a plot? I have read 1984, but I was thinking if there is something the more contemporary.
Thanks!

Chris | 1130 comments Take a look at Cory Doctorow's Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom. It takes place in the post-scarcity Bitchun Society, which uses Whuffie reputation points as a currency. It's not centralized government control, but rather control by the whims of the masses. Doctorow makes all his books available for free at https://craphound.com/
