SOLVED. Horror story about 2 boys in an attic, one convinces the other to kill himself [s]

I read a book back in the late 80s / early 90s. I think it was a book of short stories and it was by an author "like" Stephen King / Peter Straub. One of the stories was about 2 young boys in an attic. The older boy somehow convinces the younger boy to kill himself. Can't remember any more than that other than it was quite disturbing.

Blue Rose by Peter Straub? Harry discovers he can hypnotise his brother, Little Eddie, and ends up hypnotising him into killing himself so Harry doesn't get into trouble.
