Anna Sweeney was the murderer, killing all those she felt did her son wrong, the premise being that Luke was mentally damaged and should not have been tried as if he were sane. Your thoughts about his frame of mind? Did Anna have a point? Or was her son possibly raised with her murderous points of view?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I guess I didn't really think about Luke's frame of mind. I was so surprised that Anna was the murderer. I never saw that coming.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) It would have been difficult for the reader to work out the killer in this one as we weren't given all the information to work it out. Given what the mother did to get back at her son's victims' families I'd say there was some thread of psychopathy running through the family.

That Anna being a murderous sociopath meant her son probably was, too? Possibly. Even if she wasn’t, that kind of behavior in a child sure seems like crazy. I think she had a point.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3484 comments I don't know if Luke was criminally crazy, but he was off. He had to pay for his actions.

I never suspected Anna as the murderer. That knocked me for a loop. Marsons is good at keeping the actual murderer hidden until the end or close to it. Anna was a sociopath for sure. I don't think they have the death penalty in England, but she is a good candidate.

I never, ever suspected Anna.
