I remember a rather bleak Deighton-esque trilogy about the aftermath of a short war and Soviet invasion of Britain. Main character begins as a low-level civil servant whose identify has been (mis)used by MI6. This drags him into all sorts of problems. Think his name is Rickman. The other character I remember is an older spy called Easter.
The whole series had that low-key feeling similar to Deighton's SS-GB.
I read them as a teenager in the early 1970s, hence my 1960s guess.

I read a trilogy on this idea in the '70s, but I don't remember any of the details. The author was Clive Egleton and the books were:
A Piece of Resistance - 1970
The Sleeper 1971
The Judas Mandate - 1072
