A reference in the story is enough. There aren‘t too many list books with an animal in the title.

Welcome to the group Debbie! I enjoy Dean Koontz's work also. Frankenstein (which is on the Boxall List) by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley is the basis for Koontz's Frankenstein series.
If you have any questions about the list or where to find it, please do not hesitate to ask.

Unfortunately it‘s not on the list.

My mistake. Somehow I mixed my lists. :)
Many of the stories in Everything That Rises Must Converge take place on farms. One in particular features a bull who plays a crucial role. This is in addition to the birds on the covers of at least two editions.
Last month (Sept) I finished Thousand Cranes by Yasunari Kawabata of Japan. I found out as I read it that there are actually no cranes in the story; the title refers to the "thousand cranes" pattern on a shawl that a young woman wears. I would have picked another had I known that, but at least it has an animal in the title so that's "a reference to animals". I also read The Mistress of Husaby (part of Kristin Lavransdatter) earlier this year, which has a lot of horses and livestock in the story.
