2021 Readathon #1: Miles of Pages
My Dearest Darling,
Thank you for your words of encouragement! I cannot tell you the ecstasies of delight I was sent into upon reading your wireless. The captain has forbid me from entering the wireless cabin above once a day, so please forgive me for limiting my immediate response and instead pouring my heart out on paper. They will take longer to arrive to you, but at least I can give free rein to my boundless love for you.
We are making good progress across the sea; the weather has been as calm and gentle to us as I have only ever before encountered in your good nature. We have travelled 6533 miles and are very nearly to our first destination. I have spent the hours distracting myself from my desperate longing for you by organizing my specimen containers and equipment. The Society has given me such a unique opportunity and I tremble lest I should let them down and ruin all our chances for future happiness.
Forever and always in love with you,
Your Most Devoted Lepidopterist

Shall I ever recover from the sadness of leaving you? The image of you at the dock, slowly shrinking from view, as we pulled away shall be forever engraved in my memory. The pain I currently suffer seems insurmountable. This entire enterprise, as worthy a scientific expedition as ever set out, is nothing to me in comparison to you. Send but a single word and I will jump overboard and swim back to you.
It will be somewhat difficult however to get to the wireless at present alas. I may say that as the most junior member of the expedition team I have been placed in the smallest cabin and my equipment and books take up quite a sizeable portion of the space. I have only just enough room just now to write this missive to you. It seems supremely unlikely to me that I shall be able to get a single minute's sleep tonight for want of you, but if I should get the desire I shall have to spend quite some time clearing off the bunk.
With only thoughts of you occupying my entire being,
Your Most Devoted Lepidopterist
How far the Lepidopterist travels while writing to Darling is entirely up to how much everyone reads this week. Come here and update with how many pages you have read (or hours listened). 1 page = 1 mile, or 1 minute = 1 mile. Please make a new comment for each update or else I'll miss it. More sappy love letters to come!
