Lore and Fallen

Kyra smiled slightly. "It's safe, well for now at least." She muttered, more to herself than him. She tossed a few more pieces of wood into the fire. Everything in the cave was neat and organized and spread out.

Nick noticed the wing and smiled slightly. "Hello, Echo. Nice to meet you." He said gently.

Kyra watched Dante leave to go get wood.

Nick looked back out over the forest. He wasn't going to ask a lot of questions to Echo knowing that she wasn't very social.

Nick watched Echo for a moment before opening his wings. He hopped out of the cave and flew up to the overhang next to Echo.

Kyra walked to the back of the cave. She began stacking all the wood into a pile close to the fire.

"I figured there is no reason for you to have to be up here alone." Nick said, noticing her confused look.

Kyra smiled. "Sorry, I'm not very good at being social." She said quietly.

"The cave is an enclosed space. It reminds you of being in a cage. Am I right?" Nick asked.

Kyra smiled up at him. "Well, I'm glad too because it's a lot easier to talk to you than anybody else, except for Nick."

"That's okay though. More survival instincts can help keep you alive." Nick responded. He turned his head to look at her.

Kyra but her lower lip, "They are okayish, I guess." She shrugged. Caves sorta bothered her but so did any enclosed space.

Nick nodded. "Oh. I'm sorry." He said softly. He could only imagine what it must've been like for her, not being able to save her own brother.

Kyra fell silent. She sat there and watched as the flames moved and changed.

Nick noticed the unique red feathers mixed with her black feathers. He moved a little bit closer to her. "It's okay, Echo..." He said gently.

Kyra smiled slightly. She was only able to remember how old she was because she was 9 when she escaped and it had been six years since then.

Nick smiled gently at her. He hoped she wouldn't get upset with him for staying out here with her.

"I know that you don't know. But we really don't act like we are a couple." Kyra shrugged. She turned back to watch the flames.

Nick watched the forest for any signs of life.

Nick smiled and shook his head. He turned back to the forest.

Kyra nodded. She stared at the flames, watching them change as the wood burned.

"That you're able to disappear like that." Nick explained, smiling softly.

Kyra smiled slightly. "You can get some sleep if you want."

Nick smiled slightly. "If you don't mind my asking, what bird DNA was mixed with your DNA to make you a hybrid?" He was curious because of the unique feathers in her wings.

Kyra watched him for a moment before turning her attention back to the flames.

Kyra stood up. She tossed another piece of wood into the flames.

"Lucky. An all black owl sounds cool." Nick said, smiling slightly.

Kyra gave a small wave before jogging to the edge of the cave. She jumped off the edge, opening her wings. She began flying away from the cave.

Nick saw Kyra leave but didn't say anything. He knew she'd come back when she was ready. He smiled slightly and watched the sky as it slowly changed colors.

Kyra kept flying, enjoying the calm feeling she got from being in the air.

Kyra slowly turned back in the direction of the cave. She flew slower, not in any hurry to get back.

Kyra flew closer to the cave, not sensing anything wrong from what she could see.

Kyra made it back to the cave and froze, hovering outside. The smoke made her freeze and see the cave as a cage.

Kyra landed on the edge of the cave and quickly went right next to Nick. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly, knowing she was panicking badly.

Kyra slowly calmed down in Nick's arms. "I'm sorry," she muttered.

Nick watched Kyra leave and looked around Echo. "Echo, it's okay.." He said quietly.

Kyra flew just above the trees. She was quickly trying to get as far away from the cave as she could.

Nick moved so he stood next to her. "It's Okay, you're okay." He reassured her.

Kyra dove down and sat in a tree. She took a deep breath. The same words, 'my fault,' echoed through her mind, over and over again.

Nick nodded. He gently wrapped his arms around her and held her.

Kyra didn't really want to be held and tried to pull away. "I'm sorry. I just- I just don't want to be held right now...." She said quietly.

Nick kept his arms around her. He looked at her. "You okay, Echo?" He asked quietly.

Kyra fell silent. She wasn't sure what more to say. She focused on calming her mind down.

Nick smiled, still holding her. He hummed softly.

Kyra kept looking around. She felt like it was her fault the blanket caught fire and that Dante almost got hurt.
Kyra walked deeper into the cave where there were some smoldering embers of a fire. She tossed some wood on it and the flames grew, illuminating the huge cave.
