Bo Tully, sheriff of Blight county, Idaho -- and a fellow who dropped twenty pounds on Atkins -- had been thinking about asking out Jan Whittle, his grade-school sweetheart. Problem is, he's already promised to celebrate his dad's seventy-fifth birthday with him. Thwarted romance proves to be the least of Bo's problems, however, when a dead body turns up on Batim Scragg's ranch. The baffling thing is that neither Batim nor his two wayward sons appear to be the culprits. Forced to put on his sleuthing hat, Bo finds himself faced with a whole slew of possible suspects. And what quickly becomes apparent is that, while the sheriff's investigative methods may not exactly be legal, they are, for better or worse, The Blight Way.
Sometimes you just need a fun mystery to enjoy when the stress of life is catching up. That is what The Blight Way was for me. The narration on the audiobook was not fantastic, the story line was not complex, and the intensity of the book didn't keep you on the edge of your seat. However, the characters were ones you could picture, the humor was present, and the story line was easy to follow. Exactly the things you want in a cozy, easy-ready mystery.

The characters, especially Sheriff Tully and his dad Paps were delightful. I laughed out loud at times and was completely rooting for them by the end of the book. I could just see the two of them bickering at each other but working together in perfect unison to catch the "bad guys."
Overall, if you want a "cozy mystery" with a small town take this is a book and series to pick up. I personally am on to book two in the Bo Tully series.
