Misty | 1489 comments For prompt # 17 - A book with a Muslim character or author - I read The City of Brass by S. A. Chakraborty. I was really excited about this book and really enjoyed the first 2/3rds of the book. Then it kind of tanked a bit. I know it was supposed to be excited at the end, but it was honestly just chaotic. I still gave it four stars, and I will read the rest of the trilogy. There was a lot of really cool stuff in this book. I hope book two redeems itself.

Misty | 1489 comments Well, I had a great year, but it ended with a dud. For prompt #48 - A book that might cause someone to react “You read what?!?” - I read And the Hippos Were Boiled in Their Tanks by Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs. It was a slightly ficitonalized retelling of the murder of a gay man by a member of their social circle in 1944. The writing was good, but the people were horrible. Who knew these writers were such trash people? To me, this work was just another example of asshole men who we are told must be adored. Blech. I'll pass thanks.
