I would have kept reading, Id need to know more. I don't like secrets but what would be the benefit of her telling him here? She's right, it would only cause more pain to a broken man, I would only share the manuscript if I had proof Verity was 'OK' (and at this point in the book I think she is!)Absolutely there are people out there who don't know what they're married too, is it a case of the physcopath letting you see only what they want you to see ? Or the spouse seeing only what they want to see? It's usually so obvious after the fact, after a break up etc but when your in love it is so often blind isn't it.
- I feel like I wouldn’t have told Jeremy right away either! Take a second to process something so disturbing and then considering how little she knows them in general I’d want to be mindful of what to say and when to say it!- Hell no to the lock on the outside of the door! I get the intention buuut I wouldn’t have felt comfortable in a creepy house with a creepy woman I thought was faking her disabilities who Ive read crazy things about what she’s capable of. Let alone Lowen still doesn’t really know Jeremy. Nope nope nope!
- I personally think that kids are inherently honest so I would’ve believed Crew about the knife but I may have tricked myself into thinking she may have said it before the accident. Like in general taught him not to play with knives 🤷🏻♀️
- This is a great question! I’ve always believed that no one REALLY knows anyone. You can be super familiar, understand someone, know them to the fullest extent that you can know another but no matter what you will never know all the thoughts that go through their heads and all that makes up who they are. “Knowing” someone in my opinion is only possible to the extent that they want you to know them!
- I wouldn’t destroy the manuscript. I feel like there is too much critical information in there and Lowen may need it one day should anything else happen. Plus I feel like keeping all of that from Jeremy is a bit deceitful. I always try to put myself in other peoples shoes and I’d want to know all of those things regardless of how painful. I choose truth, always.
I finished the book a week ago and SO happy to have read it! Can’t wait for the next pick!
I just finished this chapter. Holy crap.1. Personally I would read the whole thing and at the end give it to Jeremy and say “you need to read this”. It probably isn’t her place to tell him. But it’s so messed up- he deserves to know.
2. I think the lock was placed for a little of both reasons. But more because she’s afraid of the house/Verity
3. I don’t think we ever truly no anyone beyond ourselves 100%. I think there are some extreme situations where people hide big secrets/their true selves. Heck, some people marry murders and sociopaths without any idea.
4. I think she will change her mind- can’t wait to see though!
happy v-day everyone 💕
1. I would have kept reading. I feel like this would destroy Jeremy so I’m not sure if I would say anything. At least not yet. Once you share the truth there is no going back. Sometimes it’s better to sit on something until it’s the right time. 2. I think Lowen is scared for her own safety at this point! Having the lock may keep her mind at ease and allow her to sleep through the night without fear. There so many “what ifs” though! I don’t think I would be okay NOT having access out. Talk about being claustrophobic!
3. No no no! I definitely believe Crew! Kids are so open and honest, especially at his age. This isn’t something he would make up- at least I don’t think so. There is some truth to this- crew’s character is a way to shine a light on Verity’s true character.
4. This line hit me so hard! Such a good question. I felt terrible for Jeremy at this point and then I started to think about the people in my own life. Do I know them inside and out? I believe people keep a small part of themselves a secret. There can always be a hint of mystery to a person.
Love reading all of your responses - we basically all agree Verity is up to some shit and TRUTH always wins. Thanks for sharing!
-I think I would have grabbed a snack and read the rest of the book in one sitting. 😳-I think originally she didn’t trust herself, but also a little bit of being scared of the house & someone in it.
-I really think Verity talks to him/moved that knife!!!! Something weird is happening
Can’t wait to read on!!
~ I would’ve been absolutely shocked and terrified, but I would have just kept on reading. I know that Verity’s autobiography is extremely disturbing, but it also is so intriguing and suspenseful. That’s why I felt frustrated sometimes that Lowen would put off reading next chapters. Like how can you do that? 😂 ~ I guess it’s the combination of both. She both felt uncomfortable because of her sleepwalking problem and the vibe of the house just added to that.
~ I would’ve said to Jeremy what happened. But whether he would’ve believed it or not would be up to him.
~ Yes, I believe in that. Especially when the relationship is just on early stage. But even in married couples some ugly secrets could come up at any time, which maybe deliberately were omitted by partner.
I’ve already finished the book, so I just skipped some questions since I know what happened :)
Hello everybody! 1. This part was very difficult to read for me as a mother, but leaving that aside I would have told Jeremy and I would have given up the contract.
2. think both conditions define Lowen very well and I understand it. On the other hand, you want to be safe in view of past incidents that mark your life, and on the other hand you go to a foreign house where you have frightening stuff. Who would not be afraid to stay in the house after finding so many frightening things?
3. Children always say real things, and especially such important things. I would have told Jeremy, but only after I had convinced myself.
4. Yes, I think that. Unfortunately, not many of us are standing with someone for years and we do not know him in depth, and then they go down the drain for years because communication was not something that both sides agreed.
5. Unfortunately yes. The closer he gets to Jeremy the more the idea of burning the manuscript becomes more and more mistaking, and besides that the frightening events with Verity emphasize more strongly that the manuscript must be read by Jeremy.

- After reading the part about Verity trying to abort her babies, Lowen goes straight to the kitchen for an alcoholic drink while she processes what she just read. What would you have done? Tell Jeremy, keep reading, leave without finishing your contract, etc
- Thoughts about the lock being placed on the door? Do you think Lowen really doesn't trust herself or more so afraid of being in the house?
- Crew mentions "Mommy says I'm not suppose to touch her knife" (pg 130) at this point would you say something to Jeremy? Do you think that Crew is just making up stuff for the loss of his mom or is she really talking to him?
- Pg 165 "the man is married to a psychopath, and he has no idea because she did everything she could to hide it from him" do you think there are people out there that truly don't know their partners?
- Lowen mentions destroying the manuscript before leaving because it would crush Jermey. Do you think that knowing what Lowen knows and how she feels for him might change her
decision to do so?
Many of you have finished so later today I will post multiple threads so that we can discuss some chapters and an overall of the book. I hope you have loved it as much as I have.
