Hi!1. Verity and Jeremy's first meeting was hot. The physical attraction has emanate from both characters and has attracted themselves like a magnet. I don't think that the first meeting between Lowen and Jeremy would have gone the same way as the one between Jeremy and Verity. The two characters Versity and Lowen are different in the print of many things. The first is the very anonymity Lowen prefers, and Versity is not so. Then the style of each one to dress is different. But if we are to follow what Jeremy feels, then I can say he likes both women, a more savage and a good one.
2. What if I had read the autobiography? Well, obviously. That's how I could have identified the type of writing that Versity is doing.
3. Yes is true what Lowen sees, and that gives a note of suspense and unpredictability to this story.
4. Being mother, it was very difficult to read and reread those scenes now.
Ugh. Tried pacing myself but I finished the book!!! - YES! I def would have read the autobiography bc my nosiness would have gotten the best of me! Lol besides, it’s for research purposes right? right! 😅
- Having children is a life changing event. I think everyone freaks out a little about what the relationship with your partner will be like after kids. Especially since Verity and Jeremy have been so in love this whole time leading up to this, so some hesitation is normal. Not sure if the extent of her resistance to it is considered “normal” but I know pregnancy/post postpartum hormones can make ppl do irrational things even when we don’t want to. I can’t tell if prior to being pregnant, Verity wanted kids at some point of her life but I get the vibe that she didn’t. Which doesn’t help with the resistance she is feeling.
Also, maybe I’ve got the super bowl on my mind, but look wise, Jeremy gives me Tom Brady vibes lol
I'm nosy by nature, absolutely would have read the autobiography. As a mother I found this quite heard to read, Verity was obviously not well during her pregnancy, there is a HUGE difference being worried how your life will change to physically trying to abort your 20 week old twins, it makes me suspicious of Verity and the girls deaths. we shall see...
(1) I definitely think their encounter would have went the same as his and Verity's first meeting - you could feel the tension when reading, I think it was clear they were both attracted to each other. (2) I would be very hesitant to - but my nosiness would definitely take over and I would have to read. I think I would actually do what Lowren did to make me not feel as guilty 😂 - use the autobiography as an excuse to get to know Verity better, which would help write the rest of her books.
(3) I honestly don't think Lowren is getting inside her own head - I think that's truly what she saw. Just have a really bad feeling about Verity, and the autobiography only adds to this. It does make me question her condition. I also think there's a particular reason behind Verity specifically asking for Lowren to be the writer or the rest of her books - I don't know what the reason is but I just have a bad feeling about it all.
(4) Was really hard to read this particular part as it was just so shocking - but I guess the jealousy is perhaps understandable, as Verity's been use to having Jeremy all to herself, they've really been in a honeymoon period their full relationship up until she was pregnant - however, Verity is much more than just 'jealous'. I think she's deeply troubled, and I agree with the comment by Laura above - I'm definitely linking Verity to the girls deaths.
Wow, wow, wow!!!! I finished the book. This book was fascinating and very addicting. I could not stop reading it. AND when I did stop reading I just kept thinking about how much I wanted to be reading Verity. Missing Lowen and Jeremy since book is over. Really liked them together.
Excellent first book for this Book Club!
Full disclosure, I finished the book last night/this morning! I couldn’t stop!! Finished at almost 3am and still couldn’t sleep right after cuz my mind was racing about it all! Thank God for caffeine ☕️1. Verity and Jeremy’s first encounter was steamyyyy! Do meetings like that really happen in real life? Because they should haha
2. I definitely would have read the manuscript too! First of all because I’d want to know about the people I’m living with especially given their “chronic” history. Plus I’d probably validate my curiosity by assuming that if it’s a finished, typed up official autobiographical manuscript then it was meant to be read by strangers eventually anyways, right!? 🤷🏻♀️
3. I 100% believed Verity was looking at Lowen! Maybe it’s because I know the book is a thriller but Verity just gave me creepy vibes anyways. If I were Lowen I would’ve convinced myself I was seeing things though too.
4. As a newish mom of a 1 yr old, reading Verity’s feelings on her pregnancy was tough. Heartbreaking, troubling, dark... I wanted to just jump into the book and shake her...and then drive her to therapy! Not to take away from the reality of her perspective because pregnancy and postpartum are SO hard for so many women and acknowledging that is important but dang, that was hard to read!!
Absolutely loved this book!I think i would definitely have read the autobiography because i’m so nosey haha. Plus I think it is the best way for Lowen to get a feel for the type of person that Verity is so definitely part of research.
At this stage, I felt like Lowen did see Verity at the top of the stairs. It just took the suspense and tension to a whole other level, thinking what is going on here and what is going to happen now.
The way Verity writes about finding out she was pregnant etc i found quite hard to read. As a mother myself, I know these things can be a huge shock to people and sometimes take some getting used to but I have always felt blessed from the moment I found out i was pregnant and her attitude about the babies taking Jeremy away from her and the growing resentment about it made me feel really uncomfortable reading it
I have so many questions! if Verity is walking about and more able than we believe. what is her end goal? to be cared for by Jemery? to have his completed and utter undivided attention? whats up with Alice? why is she so off? why does Verity have a knife ' mummy told me not to play with HER knife' how can she fake it? surely scans would show brain damage???
I finished in three days too, Alaina! Such a great story- thanks for choosing this book😊1. Ohhhh this is such a good question! I definitely thought it was interesting when Jeremy stayed in the bathroom as Lowen changed. And then I was like they are def going to end up in bed at some point in the story! Now knowing about Jeremy & Verity’s first encounter, I really hope to see those steamy scenes!
2. Hell yessss I would have read the autobiography! Nosy neighbor over here! I mean she’s staying at their home, Jeremy has seen her half naked...why not dive a little bit deeper?
3. I didn’t think Verity was actually staring at her. I think Lowen was just psyching herself out.
4. At first I felt bad for Verity and her anxiety around motherhood, but as I kept reading and realized she wanted to abort the babies more so out of jealousy, it made me feel really sad and angry. So far it seems like the only reason she doesn’t want the babies are because she believes Jeremy will give her less attention. If there were other reasons as to why she didn’t want to be a mother (which is totally fine if you don’t want to be a mom), I think I would have understood more.
1. Verity and Jeremy’s first encounter almost seemed unreal - such things rarely, as ever, happen at all. But i love how Colleen still made it believable. While people surviving/living through the same traumatic experience tend to bond very fast, I can’t imagine Lowen and Jeremy going at it on the day right when they met. Sparks flew between them, definitely, but maybe they could’ve exchanged numbers and just met up later on.
2. I would read autobiography just to immerse myself in the author’s brain, since the brain produces ideas for plots and characters.
3. The atmosphere in the house is spooky, to say the least. It’s still unclear whether Verity did actually stare at Lowen, but judging by her overall mental and physical state it could be untrue. Lowen feels jumpy since she got to know Verity better both through her books and her autobiography. Since they are both quite malicious, it’s no wonder that she would be wary, even subconsciously, of verity all the time.
4. Verity’s reaction to the idea of Jeremy loving their kids less than her just hints to Verity’s low esteem/lack of confidence. She’s completely dependent on Jeremy, in a very unhealthy way. I wonder what might have happened to her to make her like this?
- I definitely would have read the autobiography. I’m way too nosy and just would want to know every detail 😂 -I’m starting to wonder if there is something suspicious going on with Verity and that maybe she’s physically capable of more than I originally thought.
-Verity’s fear of her twins makes me wonder if there’s more to the story of their eventual deaths..

There was a lot covered in these few chapters so If you haven't finished chapter 6 stop reading *spoilers* ahead...answer which ever questions resonate with you. No pressure to answer them all, or you totally can, this is just for fun!
- What do you think of Verity and Jeremy's first encounter? Do you think that had Jeremy not been married to Verity that him and Lowen's first encounter would have gone along the same way - hot steamy sex and being inseparable?
- Would you have read the autobiography? Why or why not
- On pg 93 Lowen thinks she catches Verity staring at her, do you think this is possible or that Lowen is getting inside her own head?
- Pg 103-110 Verity is pregnant now with twins. She seems to have some resistance to this idea fearing that Jeremy will love the babies more than he loves her. What thoughts are going through your mind that you'd like to share?
