2021 TOB Bracket Competition
So, after filling in my bracket, I randomly picked a winner for each matchup and then again for each round and then all the books left over to pick zombies and so on. In the end, it picked The Resisters (as a zombie) to win it all so I kinda forgot about it. Today, I calculated where it would be if it had been entered and it has 12 points!
Whoo hoo! I'm 6 for 7 currently. I'm sure to fall apart later (I had my one miss, Transcendent Kingdom, going pretty far) so I'll savor it while I can.

I had Piranesi as a zombie and The Vanishing Half in the final, glad to see they are current zombies. Also I want more discussion of Piranesi.
None of the frontrunners from yesterday picked Leave the World Behind so our leaderboard didn't change much but I'm anticipating a pretty crazy week next week once the picks are weighed more!
I'm 4 out of 8 going into the quarter rounds and feeling fortunate that I successfully picked one of the books in each round. I seriously doubt though that I'll hold on to even 50% accuracy going forward.

Well, they just revealed that Sharks doesn’t have the zombie votes so my bracket is toast. Only my winner pick of Interior Chinatown keeps me watching the standings.
I'm thinking there should be a special award for calling every opening round & the play-in for the losing book. That must make a person very sad and in need of some special consolation.

Interior Chinatown or Bust! I have no other books left. I was surprised Deacon King Kong didn't get more zombie votes considering how many people picked it to win.
It looks like we have some folks with predictions of IC, TVH, and Piranesi, but no one guessed B&E or RP taking the Rooster, so there could be quite an upset!

Only in the TOB Bracket Competition can some one miss the first 16 match-ups and still pick the Champion. Hayley can do it with her pick of The Vanishing Half going all the way to the winner's circle.

I personally assumed Breasts and Eggs was a Seed 4 and would count as an upset but they seeded it #3 and Telephone #4 despite Everett’s extensive backlist. So the only upset in Quarterfinals was Jason’s Interior Chinatown pick!
Next year I gotta get in on those brackets...

I’d love to go back and compare correct guesses from previous years (like how accurate we have been in the past) because this year feel like it has just been upset after upset!Incredibly impressed by those who are doing well and cannot WAIT to buy a book for the winner

If you give each book an equal probability of being chosen, and don’t know which book will win the play-in round ahead of the opening round, I come up with a 0.6% chance to get the entire opening round wrong. Even if you assume a 100% chance of being wrong by picking Tender is the Flesh to advance (hehe) you still only have a 1.2% chance of being entirely wrong.
If The Vanishing Half were to win tomorrow and Wednesday, Gayla will be staging a real come from behind bracket competition win. And Hayley will have to surrender her total loss score.
Not sure if I checked all possibilities correctly, but it looks like my only chance to keep 1st place is if Breasts and Eggs ends up winning it all. Go Breasts and Eggs!!!
One more match. Good luck, Gayla. From the commentariat votes, it looks like you're the underdog. I love rooting for an underdog, but since TVH was a 1-seed (and #1 NYT lister) and IC was a #2, it's debatable who the real underdog is.

I don't think we've had the winner unknown going into the final championship since we started the brackets contest in GR (granted this is the 3rd or 4th one) so this was a nail-biter!
