Mookse discussion on Zoom?
I liked the informal format indeed where everybody got to talk as much or as little as they wanted. I didn't talk much because I haven't been reading much lately, but it was nice to just listen to all of you.
I’m glad to see that I am not the only chatty person here. I am comfortable with silence between comments, but I always have something to say! Like GY I try to be mindful of how much I’ve spoken so I don’t impede the less chatty from speaking up.
The next Zoom discussion will be this Sunday (2nd May) at 8.15 pm BST. Talking points will include the International Booker and Women's Prize shortlists. I will send the Zoom details over the weekend to everyone I included last time - if anyone else wants to join let me know either here or by a private message.

Sadly won't work for me - I'll be on the Monday morning bus to university at that time. Hopefully there will be more as I only have two months study left!
Even worse time for me than last time (5.15 a.m.!). But I have another certain bookish Zoom meeting a matter of hours before this one, anyway ;)
Thanks to everyone for another interesting and enjoyable chat. Numbers were lower this time, so we were wondering whether to leave the next one until after the Booker longlist announcement, so maybe Sunday August 1st. I would also be willing to consider going back to an earlier start time.
thanks for organizing Hugh, it was great to see everybody, sorry for eating my dinner during the meeting but my previous zoom call ended a bit later than expected
I didn’t join this evening because I figured most of the talk would be about the Booker International and the Women’s Prize and I haven’t read for either of those. Hope you all had a good discussion.
For me these will work better when life goes back to something like normal and where our new found familiarity with Zoom/webex/WhatsApp/FaceTime makes things like this possible but does not dominate everyday life.
Really enjoyed the discussion this evening, and thanks as always to Hugh. August 1st sounds good to me.
Same from me. Nice to talk with all of you. Aug 1 is good. Thanks for setting this up Hugh. It was fun!
Apologies for missing last night. My mother in law was over for dinner and lots of Line of Duty final episode chat. (UK TV show)
My son came home to help with some landscaping, so I now have a new bed for herbs and got to see my “little”. (He’s 26 and 6’2”). It sounds like it was a good discussion- I’m sorry I missed it.
6’2”! He’s sound like nice little chap to help his mom like that.I’m so disappointed I couldn’t sign on. My daughter’s family were sick with colds so home from school all week and she was in desperate need of a break from 7 yr old Ronan calling Griffin “Sniffin” and tagging “kind sir” on to every thank you Griffin, a very polite 5 yr old, utters which of course makes Griffin collapse into tears. I’m so glad my sons are 13 years apart. I find my grandsons funny, but what’s funny for a few hours is maddening day after day.
I hope to sign on for the next one though. I’m sad I’ve missed two in a row.

I have a cousin who is 6’4”- needless to say, she played basketball. I am thrilled that my son is only an hour away again.
The current plan is still to have another Zoom meeting this Sunday (1st August), at 8.15 pm BST. Will send out the meeting details by private message at least a few hours before the start time to everyone who has commented on this thread - hope to see you then. Discussion topics will include the Booker longlist (which we should know in less than 11 hours) and anything else you have enjoyed reading recently or are looking forward to.
If you are not already on my list I will send you the invitation if you comment here or send me a private message.

I have a conflict, but i'm anxiously awaiting the longlist and hope to read the whole list this time. I'd still like the link just in case plans change.

OK, I will add you to the list. Welcome to the group.

I have just sent out the Zoom meeting details for tomorrow using private messages. It is possible that I may have missed one or two people, so if you haven't received them, let me know, either by commenting here or by PM.
Hope to see some of you there.

I’m going to miss this meeting since I’m visiting my son at the moment. I haven’t seen him in a year and a half because of the stupid pandemic. I’m having a lovely time on the east coast.
I will likely have to sit out as well as my wife is arriving back from Korea (a positive Covid test when we were about to fly separated the family for 3.5 weeks). But Gumble can fill in my views - or indeed anyone can (long books should be banned, the Booker is a bit rubbish, roll on the Goldsmiths, why aren’t there more small presses etc etc)
I assumed you were going to do that anyway. Can’t you rewrite your review of The Promise a la Town Like Malice? You ought to at least post a link to the song on your review or on the book thread.

Kids and I (in my case due to vaccine) all had mild Covid. My wife didn’t get it as she had already left for the planned 6-7 weeks in Korea.
Sorry to miss another meeting. The timing is a bit tough for Sunday evening in Finland, especially as tomorrow morning it’s back to work. Hoping to see you some other time again.
I have a one month old and am a shadow of my former self, but hope to rejoin these meetings at some point. Enjoy!
A one month old! Congratulations!! Babies are the absolute best, exhausting, but still the best. It’s a whole new world each time a baby is born. I’m amazed you’re able to read anything with a newborn to care for. Maybe, if you’re comfortable with it, your baby can make a brief cameo at one of the zoom meetings. Holding and inhaling babies releases happy endorphins, we won’t get the that advantage, but it’s hard not to smile when seeing a baby.

I wouldn't worry about that - I think everyone who wanted to got plenty of time to speak, and a couple of the quieter ones had already said they were mostly there to listen before the meeting. I should have tried to keep a list of all the books we discussed - there were quite a lot of them.
