I would prefer to keep the time the same but would be willing to go with the majority view.

message 152: by WndyJW (new)

WndyJW I could do later too if that works better,p.

message 153: by Tony (new)

Tony | 682 comments Just discovered this, but I suspect it won't work for me - 6 p.m. UK time is 5 a.m. here :(

message 154: by WndyJW (new)

WndyJW Where are you, Tony?

message 155: by Hugh, Active moderator (new)

Hugh (bodachliath) | 4399 comments Mod
It is a tricky balance and it is difficult to accomodate everybody - a start two hours later would be better for Australia and worse for India

message 156: by Tony (new)

Tony | 682 comments Melbourne!

message 157: by WndyJW (new)

WndyJW Maybe we can alternate times every few zooms. A little bit later in the evening Greenwich time would only mean later in there afternoon US times and that would give Australia an early morning time, but at least the sun would be up there.

8pm and 7am, or 9pm and 8am isn’t so bad, is it?

Hugh (bodachliath) | 4399 comments Mod
8.15 pm UK time would be better for me than 8 or 7, as my regular Sunday quiz usually finishes just after 8, but if necessary I can probably do both simultaneously.

message 159: by WndyJW (new)

WndyJW There’s also Saturdays if that works better for people. Then they have Sunday to sleep in or recover from a later than usual work night.

message 160: by Tony (new)

Tony | 682 comments I wouldn't change times if it's just for me, especially as I'm a late sleeper and would probably miss an early start, anyway!

message 161: by WndyJW (new)

WndyJW Lol! Me too, Tony. I’m a definite night owl. I’m wide awake from 10pm to 4am on weekends and vacations. It would be nice to meet you though.

Gumble's Yard - Golden Reviewer | 10084 comments Later on Sundays is actually better for me

message 163: by WndyJW (new)

WndyJW US readers are fortunate to be 6 hrs a either way, the 12 hour difference is a bigger hurdle.

Sundays are usually bad for me, but better if it is later in the day. Like others have said, though, no need to accommodate for me. I will join when I can.

WndyJW Tony has already said he’s not getting out of bed for the likes of us! :)

LindaJ^ (lindajs) | 1100 comments March 21 should be ok for me and same or hour later won't matter.

message 169: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Haiken | 1907 comments Just a reminder for those in the U.S. now on daylight savings time: I think the U.K. does not shift to summer time until the end of the month, so, for example, if the Zoom call is set for the 21st at 7 pm GMT, it will be 3 pm on the East Code of the U.S., not 2 pm.

message 170: by WndyJW (new)

WndyJW Thank you, Cindy, I didn’t know that.

I won’t be able to make the 21st, (lives’ long best friend (Buddhist joke) is coming to town. She hasn’t seen her mother since October and is permitted one 20 minute visit, which is more than some people have been able to spend with parents and loved ones in nursing homes.) I’ll make the next one though.

Ok let's fix it for Sunday 21st at 2015 GMT. Will send out zoom links neater the time.

I have just sent the Zoom details to the same list of people as last time plus Tony - if anyone else is interested let me know.

Possible discussion topics include the Women's Prize, The Booker International and anything else you have enjoyed reading in the last month.

Hi! I'm very new here (I joined the group last night) and I am always behind on new releases (and thus book prizes...), so I don't think I'd have much to contribute. But I do love to hear people talk about literary fiction. Would it still be possible for me to join in on the Zoom call?

Yes, I have just sent you the details

message 176: by Jen (new)

Jen | 176 comments I'm sorry I'll be missing tonight's gathering. Without thinking I spontaneously invited my mother and sister for dinner earlier today. Now I need to get prepping!
Have fun and I hope to join next time.

Gumble's Yard - Golden Reviewer | 10084 comments Inviting people for dinner. I remember that from 2019

Adina | 214 comments Hugh wrote: "Thanks to everyone for another interesting discussion. We decided to aim for Sunday May 2nd for the next one." Most likely I won’t be able to attend that meeting because it’s the Orthodox Easter. Any volunteer to write the minutes? Joking, obviously.

WndyJW I’m sorry I missed this one, but I will keep my afternoon free for May 2nd!

message 187: by Declan (new)

Declan | 197 comments It's a pity you weren't able to join the discussion, Wendy. I didn't have any problem with the wi-fi this time so I was able to stay for the full length of the conversation. I look forward to the next discussion by which time the shortlists of several of the prizes will have been announced.

Gumble's Yard - Golden Reviewer | 10084 comments Sorry I could not join also - to be honest I was Zoom/Webex'd out - I think the M&G Zoom's will appeal a lot more to me when normal life returns a bit more to face to face.

message 189: by Emmeline (new)

Emmeline | 1031 comments I unfortunately had my head in the oven, in a scraping out burnt cheese way, not in a Sylvia Plath way. But I hope to catch you at the next one!

It is one of the oddities of the new world - there has been a great increase in online book clubs, talks etc which is wonderful - except generally I am not too keen to join them having spent all day on calls. I was able to join this one though and was great to see everyone.

message 194: by Robert (new)

Robert | 2647 comments I thought it was interesting watching the twins (sorry to make this sound like a science experiment) _ Paul is definitely the more chattier one, while GY says his piece after a gap and then stops (at least that is the impression I got)

However both of you mentioned as a first sentence the question of anonymity - Paul doesn't like it and GY doesn't like the fact that Paul revealed his identity

message 195: by WndyJW (new)

WndyJW I’m even more disappointed that I wasn’t there now. Hopefully, everyone will be there May 2nd.

Gumble's Yard - Golden Reviewer | 10084 comments I can be way too talkative - I just sometimes remember to rein it in.

I definitely talked far too much but there were a few moments of silences which I responded to by jumping in with another ramble.
