It is a tricky balance and it is difficult to accomodate everybody - a start two hours later would be better for Australia and worse for India
Maybe we can alternate times every few zooms. A little bit later in the evening Greenwich time would only mean later in there afternoon US times and that would give Australia an early morning time, but at least the sun would be up there.8pm and 7am, or 9pm and 8am isn’t so bad, is it?
8.15 pm UK time would be better for me than 8 or 7, as my regular Sunday quiz usually finishes just after 8, but if necessary I can probably do both simultaneously.
There’s also Saturdays if that works better for people. Then they have Sunday to sleep in or recover from a later than usual work night.
I wouldn't change times if it's just for me, especially as I'm a late sleeper and would probably miss an early start, anyway!
Lol! Me too, Tony. I’m a definite night owl. I’m wide awake from 10pm to 4am on weekends and vacations. It would be nice to meet you though.
Sundays are usually bad for me, but better if it is later in the day. Like others have said, though, no need to accommodate for me. I will join when I can.
Just a reminder for those in the U.S. now on daylight savings time: I think the U.K. does not shift to summer time until the end of the month, so, for example, if the Zoom call is set for the 21st at 7 pm GMT, it will be 3 pm on the East Code of the U.S., not 2 pm.
Thank you, Cindy, I didn’t know that.I won’t be able to make the 21st, (lives’ long best friend (Buddhist joke) is coming to town. She hasn’t seen her mother since October and is permitted one 20 minute visit, which is more than some people have been able to spend with parents and loved ones in nursing homes.) I’ll make the next one though.
I have just sent the Zoom details to the same list of people as last time plus Tony - if anyone else is interested let me know.
Possible discussion topics include the Women's Prize, The Booker International and anything else you have enjoyed reading in the last month.

Hi! I'm very new here (I joined the group last night) and I am always behind on new releases (and thus book prizes...), so I don't think I'd have much to contribute. But I do love to hear people talk about literary fiction. Would it still be possible for me to join in on the Zoom call?

Yes, I have just sent you the details
Yes, I have just sent you the details
I haven't read anything last month so I won't have much to contribute, but I look forward to seeing you all again.
I'm sorry I'll be missing tonight's gathering. Without thinking I spontaneously invited my mother and sister for dinner earlier today. Now I need to get prepping!Have fun and I hope to join next time.
Thanks to everyone who joined today! I wasn't sure I'd make it, but I'm so glad I did. I am already looking forward to the next!

Thanks to everyone for another interesting discussion. We decided to aim for Sunday May 2nd for the next one.

It's a pity you weren't able to join the discussion, Wendy. I didn't have any problem with the wi-fi this time so I was able to stay for the full length of the conversation. I look forward to the next discussion by which time the shortlists of several of the prizes will have been announced.
Sorry I could not join also - to be honest I was Zoom/Webex'd out - I think the M&G Zoom's will appeal a lot more to me when normal life returns a bit more to face to face.
I unfortunately had my head in the oven, in a scraping out burnt cheese way, not in a Sylvia Plath way. But I hope to catch you at the next one!

I was able to join this one though and was great to see everyone.
I thought it was interesting watching the twins (sorry to make this sound like a science experiment) _ Paul is definitely the more chattier one, while GY says his piece after a gap and then stops (at least that is the impression I got) However both of you mentioned as a first sentence the question of anonymity - Paul doesn't like it and GY doesn't like the fact that Paul revealed his identity
Gumble's Yard wrote: "I can be way too talkative - I just sometimes remember to rein it in."ah I thought all the curt sentences were due to inner planning! :D
