Sam Lopez | 16 comments Greetings! I've written a query for my first novel Project Regenesis, and I'd love to hear your feedback on it. Here it is:

[insert personalized line].

LazBot is a gender-neutral human, in their last year of high school, with a mental condition that prevents them from feeling most emotions. They do feel loneliness and secretly yearn for friends, but refuse to befriend humans as they currently are with their illogical emotions, preferring to remain lonely instead. So when LazBot gets chosen to become the USA representative in Project Regenesis, a global government-run project that will determine the future of emotions, they jump at the chance to eliminate emotions and find friends.

LazBot has no issue with debating people and their beliefs about emotions, whether to keep them all or to remove only the negative emotions, to the death. Candidates are killed when their doubt and guilt levels rise too high, detonating the self-destructing devices implanted in their heads. LazBot believes that this is for the greater good because when they win and obtain the right to spread the virus that removes emotions from everyone, there won’t be any more crimes or wars fueled by anger or greed, and they would be able to find true companions.

However, LazBot meets Harmony, a free-spirited woman who believes in the worth of all emotions. With her, LazBot begins to feel more emotions than ever before, and as they experience more emotions, they begin to doubt themselves and their utopia. Before their doubt and guilt kill them, LazBot needs to navigate the illogical maze of emotions and reach their answer: whether to keep emotions, or to remove only the negative ones, or to remove all of them.

Project Regenesis is a 75,000-word YA sci-fi manuscript. I’m [insert name], a Deaf author, and I’m majoring in English/Mathematics at [insert college].
