Naomi sat in the cockpit. She gazed out the window as her ship approached Voltor. This was one of her least favorite parts about flying. Descending onto the surface of a planet and leaving behind the freedom of space. Naomi shook herself and concentrated on landing. She dove towards Voltor, expecting a smooth landing. She was about to land when a red light flashed on her screen. Her landing gear was malfunctioning. Naomi let out a long stream of creative curse words as Obsidian crashed onto the landing pad. She groaned as she unbuckled her seatbelt and stood up, making sure she was still in one piece. She tapped on her screen and ran an analyses of the ship.
Landing gear was broken but the cargo hold was fine.
Naomi let out a relived sigh and sent out a request for a mechanic.
Naomi emerged from her ship and approached the man standing outside the cockpit. "Are you the mechanic?" She asked.
"I am." Naomi glanced at her landing gear. She was no mechanic but she could tell her landing gear was badly damaged.
Naomi stood back and watched him work in silence. She liked his directness. How he skipped the small talk and got right to business, which was just fine with her. When people made small talk, they tended to ask questions. Questions that Naomi never wanted to answer. Like 'How are you?' which Naomi found an odd question because there was only one answer anyone wanted to hear. Nobody wanted to hear that she wasn't doing okay. They wanted to ask the question, get a positive answer, and then pat themselves on the back for checking on her.
She raised an eyebrow. "I doubt that but okay." Naomi sat down on the floor, not caring if her jeans got dirty. "And I'll stay."
Naomi continued to sit there and watch him work. She twiddled her thumbs and counted the seconds but she got lost at about 382 and had to restart.
Naomi looked up as another ship landed in the docking bay. She watched three people exit the ship, two of whom stayed by the ship while the third walked away. Naomi looked away towards the sky and she watched a cloud cross the sky.
Naomi wandered over to Sethen's ship and walked in a circle around it, taking note of the guns. She clasped her hands behind her back and fiddled with her ring, rocking back on her heels as she assessed the mechanic's ship.
Naomi looked up at her ship when the banging started and she was about to call out when she realized what he was doing. Naomi bit her tongue and started back in that direction, knowing he'd probably be finished soon and want to be paid.
Naomi stood next to him and surveyed her ship. It looked fine, not as dented. And the landing gear looked more stable. She crossed her arms and turned to Sethen. "How much?"
Naomi opened her mouth to argue but closed it and pursed her lips. She nodded wordlessly and reentered the ship. Naomi climbed into the cockpit and tapped on one of her screens, pulling up her account and entering her password. She looked out at Sethen. "I need your name."
