Bill This is the group read thread for Agent Running in the Field by John le Carré. A separate thread will be set up for spoilerish comments. Paul will moderate the discussion.

Enjoy

I'm looking forward to reading this book. It's been a while since I've read LeCarre, but I love his work.

Laura It sounds cool, so I got it from the library and plan on starting soon

I'll be a bit delayed in starting as well, but I will get to it asap. I'll just plan to avoid the spoiler thread as other people start discussing it.

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 286 comments I'm starting the audiobook today. It's my first le Carre book though I've seen film adaptations of 1 or 2 his other books.

Jayne Townsend | 20 comments LeCarre goes out with a bang. This is true to the Great Master’s style.

The descriptions are vivid and give one a perception of voyeurism, watching the intrigue unfold in front of you. The narrating character Nat, is a traditional member of the Secret Service and having returned to the UK, following many years overseas, puts his knowledge to good use. A modern spy story with elements of Brexit and President Trump thrown in to bring it up to date, but in true leCarre script.

I finally have time to start reading this book -- beginning tonight.

Tone | 1742 comments I think it's amazing that this well-written, contemporary spy novel was released only a year before John le Carré died at the age of 89. He was a great master indeed. Hope you'll enjoy the book as much as I did!

Joan Cochran | 23 comments Agreed. As usual he has created such a humane human and such a great plot. I'm going to go back and read more Le Carre.

M.L. | 365 comments I love Le Carre. This is the book I voted for and hope to read it, the paperback.

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 286 comments I enjoyed it overall, and the ending was the only letdown for me. I loved his humor and wit, and the multiple occasions of double meanings kept me on my toes.

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 286 comments I forgot to add that I highly recommend the audiobook version. Le Carré himself had performed it. And he made it clear that Nat wasn't always in full command of himself as he represented in the words on the page would suggest.

Chris (chrissieml) Really enjoyed this one. David Cornwell was a rare talent.
