About ready to start! Got a bit delayed reading another South America set novel, Journey to the River Sea (which was also in the running) and could not put it down and hoping that I Lived on Butterfly Hill will be equally engaging.
Oh, I loved this book when I read it back in 2015. My review is here: https://www.ninjalibrarian.com/2015/0...
The highlights of what I said was that I loved the author's use of language, though I wondered how much was due to the translator (who certainly deserves kudos), and that I was surprised about how little the books was really about the Pinochet horrors. It is about Celeste learning who she is.

I just finished! Just in time to see what the March pick is. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed it, although I had trouble getting into it at first. It is a book I probably never would have picked up on my own, so it was a nice surprise.
I enjoyed it.It took me a while to settle into it. I found myself almost impatient at the start when all the uncertainly took place. But once embarked on her travels, somehow I felt more settled!
It was illuminating as I don't know a lot about South America. Makes me want to visit Chile one day.
I thought this was a lovely book. I didn't know anything about this event in Chile's history, so I was as in the dark as Celeste about what would happen. I thought the mysticism took away from the book. It was scary how similar Celeste's life was to kids her age all over the world, and how quickly it all went terribly wrong. Civilization is so very fragile.
