I have completed the book....and well it was good but idk I feel like there's a lot more to this...when each of you complete let me know so we can discuss about it.

Erica | 1309 comments I gave it four stars. I liked it even though I got angry and frustrated sometimes but it moved quickly so I never had to dwell on that. Mostly it got a bump to the rating because I had trouble putting it down.

The author has a doctorate in psychology and it showed. I enjoyed that the biggest manipulator, after Hawthorn, was Emily a teenage girl. Ya can often lead to blaming everything on teenage boys but girls can be just as problematic.

Fabi I have a copy of Spinning Silver so no rush. When you want to read it is fine just let me know. :)

I gave it 3 stars because it was a good mystery but I wasn't totally absorbed in the story, I want to live in stories generally like they should revolve around my mind but this was an easy fast paced read. I liked the book and the plot is great, thanks for recommending me Erica❤️
Now, what do you think, about the book in general? I liked the way it ended, with a new mystery, and the puzzles were great, also there were good noteworthy quotes in the book.
But am I the only one who feels that character development was little weak? Like we get to know about everyone only through the way they react and through the riddles and puzzles?

Fabitha (fabitha89) | 575 comments I finished it too and gave 4 stars. It was a quick, captivating read and I loved the rush. I take one star out because having read Uproteed at the same moment, I enjoyed the latter even more so...I know it's not a very good rating system lol but it's just what I feel.

The main bummer for me was probably the triangle felt a little clichey at times, it's the classic tsundere boy vs. the carefree one. That said, the characters were well structured and their dynamics still felt believable so it's ok. It was undestandable that she could feel attracted to both for entirely different reasons.

I think we're not done with Emily's ghost too. She was a hell of a manipulator and her claws are still buried deep both in the Hawthorne siblings and her sister and best friend.

The twist at the end was good too, even if I had to say I had a hunch from the beginning that in some way that character wasn't put there just for the show of it. At first I believed that maybe the guy could have been Tobias in disguise, and it was close enough I guess? XD

I also liked that there was an entire spectrum of realistic, different, interesting women, from Libby to Zara it was quite the ride. None of them was a cliche but a complex person with their motivations and history. And shout out to Granny btw, she was just hilarious.

As for your questions, Rushali, I think this has become a common way to tell a story nowadays, there are a lot of books that relay more to showing things rather than tell them. I didn't feel it was detrimental of my involvement in the story, though. Maybe it was the better way to let us see Avery, since they were her reactions that propelled the story: she is thrown in an awkward situation and she's unsure if it's a good one or not. It's amazing to be rich all of the sudden, but maybe the price is too high and she's right to be wary and eager at the same time. I could relate a lot to her and I believe lots of people can, almost anyone must have thought at some point in life "what would I do if I was rich?" and I assure you I'd we warier still. Money is a necessary thing, and excess are never good. "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupt absolutely" is a very, very sound advice.

Fabitha (fabitha89) | 575 comments Aaaand here I go with my classic, infinite ramblings ❤️

Erica | 1309 comments Rushali I see how you would need more character development because it's clear the author went with minimal details to keep the pace moving. It was enough for me but I did want more character interaction that didn't involve the clues and puzzles. Tobias II being alive seemed likely from the start to me. Usually this story type has the person who left the will end up being alive and we discover it when the last clue is solved. Anyone else worried that in the next book Avery won't be an heiress because Tobias II is alive thus making the will challengeable. I'm on the waiting list for book 2 come September.

Yes, Fabitha, you are right, this way of character development has become common and that's great that you didn't find it detrimental, I also didn't find it hindering my progress in the book but as Erica said, more general conversations and character development out of puzzles and riddles would have been better :-)

Yes, even I assumed that he was alive and when Avery is shocked to see the picture in Nana's locket, I guessed it correctly before reading the next line.
Lol, this thought didn't even cross my mind that him being alive will challenge the will.

I am waiting for the book too, and what say shouldn't we buddy read it together?

Malic I would like to join whenever we start reading the second book 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️

Fabitha (fabitha89) | 575 comments I believe that part of it may be due to the fact that it was the sole thing they had in common. Avery was a complete stranger, and one in a sudden position of power without being clear if she was a threat or not, and in what capacity. Greyson and Jameson's relationship was strained due to Emily'd death (and before, her manipulation) so I really can't see why they should ever want to speak of anything else apart from what they were forced to. The distrust was strong in those three - and for good reasons too apparently.

I didn't think about the will too, but it looks to me that Tobias knew his son was alive and the will is supposedly ironclaw so I'm not sure it would make a difference? It's interesting though.

I agree with you, you are right, maybe the situation didn't provide them any more excuses to converse on other than the obvious things. You really think deep Fabi... haha!
Yeah, not sure about the will, in the whole book it's overly expressed that the will is ironclaw..lol

Yeah we can or we can do a group buddy read too, anyway the first and foremost thing is the fact that it will be released in September, that's a long wait!
