So, on issues of gravel: red or blue herring at this point in the story?

Well, our first vic is Loomis Winslow, PI. What's he doing out in an abandoned mill? Resting, lost, meeting someone, on a case?

Anastasia (anastasiaruff) | 241 comments I also prefer the mysteries set in Cabot Cove. Jessica tends to be able to investigate better in familiar territory and I love seeing familiar characters. I can understand the need to travel otherwise likely to run out of bodies. I have decided to reread the books from the start as well as rewatch the TV shows. Finding the first book Gin and Daggers a bit odd as Jessica travels to London and then Seth and Mort arrive to help her investigate. Mort even wears his uniform in London.
Getting back to The Murder of Twelve. I have progressed to the second confirmed death. I am wondering if Loomis was investigating something to do with the financial fraud associated with the wedding party. It is odd that no body was found of the perpetrator. I am seeing similarities with Agatha Christie's Sparkling Cyanide with the poisoning at the rehearsal dinner.

I've pretty much watched the whole TV series...a few times. lol And, thankfully, they air MSW repeats regularly. Now Gin and Daggers, I've never read. I'm intrigued and may examine that tome. Thanks for the prompt, Anastasia.

It seems Loomis being in town does coincide with wedding. We shall see.

Sparkling Cyanide or And Then There Were None. ;-)

Nicole, I'm not able to scan (had to pitch my copier/scanner) and am a slo-ow typist so it will take me some time not only to type the list but to get to it. If anyone here has ability to pop up a character list, that'd be most appreciated. Jon may weigh in on this as well. One way or nuther, we'll get it done. :-)

One footprint, a new ladder in an abandoned old building...hmmm? Could a body have been dragged? What say you, PI's?

Indeed, Nicole! And Mort can't seem to find much on Loomis. Will Harry be able to deliver? The hunt is on: who will come up with the most 411 on Loomis? Mort, Harry, Jessica, maybe Seth? Maybe even Mara's diner? Well, you never know? lol

Daryl Gerber (darylwoodgerber) | 14 comments Jon, I'm totally new to posting on a chat on Goodreads, so if I do anything "wrong," don't hate me. I'm just getting started on the book (and the series). I, too, watched all the TV shows and was actually on one, back when I was an actress. Loved it and Angela Lansbury was a true professional. Lovely woman. I'm already enjoying Murder of 12. Great tribute to Agatha Christie. Nice voice. Nice pace. I love how Jessica gains her clues, via the police and other sources. She's quite clever and attentive to detail. PS Sorry to you hear you won't continue the series. But you'll continue your other lucrative career, I'm sure.

Welcome, Daryl. So glad you chose us to take your maiden voyage into the chat world. And there are no mistakes, no wrong turns in The Parlor. Just enjoy.

You do have an actor look about you and I thought maybe I'd seen your HS on a book cover or similar. But, how great is meeting Angela Lansbury while acting on one of the most successful and best loved TV series ever?! Which episode? We'll look for it!

I took some acting classes, worked a few local gigs but eventually found my way to writing and behind the camera. Won several awards, most recent in 2020-21.

I, too, love how JB sleuths out clues, often showing the police and other pros how-it's-done. lol. She's one smart, tough cookie.

What fun! Glad you're here, PI Daryl. Please get comfortable and discuss away. Let us know if we can be of assistance. Inn-joy.

An abandoned SUV by the road, front doors left wide open. Hmmm? And the back seat floor? A clue to complicate or clarify things as Jess and company try to figure out who and (or) what? Read on to find out, PI's.

Yes, what's up with the gravel on the floor? Hmmm.....

Anastasia (anastasiaruff) | 241 comments Love the tension being created with the clock figures being crossed out. Love that Jessica is able to virtually run the investigation being stuck on her own.

Yes, that clock thing is a tad creepy, Anastasia. I'd be afraid to walk past the thing. But like a road accident or such, we tend to steal a glance even though it creeps us out.

So we think we have a witness but just how reliable is he. Bigfoot dragging a corpse about. Brr. Any thoughts on who this creature could be if there is such a character.

A Maine wedding in February? Would you have chanced it? We meet Constance, groom's mom, who has connections that seem quite impressive. And she sure loves JB which bags Jess a dinner invite right there at Hill House. Breaks up Mrs. F's chances for boredom. As if murder doesn't do enough.

Seamus, Doyle and now Henley. Will see where these three fit in the story. Carry on PI's. The Game's afoot...Bigfoot perhaps?

My thoughts about Seamus-- Well, I'll have to see where this leads. Any thoughts on picks for your fave ner do well so far, PI's? Do tell. ;-)

So where the heck are those two crazy kids? Bride and groom to be have cold feet or is it something else?

Insurance, investments and jumpers, oh my. Was Loomis hired to investigate any or all the above? And how about those Sprague twins? Amusing or--? Throw in a pair of fraternal twins, Mark and Daniel to get the little gray cells going. Thoughts are swirling like a snow storm. Any thoughts on these characters, PI's?

JB's unwanted visitor -- An honest mistake or something sinister? Could the key just have a fluke in the card? And correct me if wrong but didn't the visitor say he was not with the wedding party? I'll have to go back and re-read that part. Your thoughts on this, PI's?

I once had someone enter my hotel room who had mistakenly (apparently) been issued a key to my room by the front desk. I was quite startled, but it did not seem as though there was any ill intent. I always keep the door bolted and the chain across when I am in my room.

And yes, the clock was creepy, just like the little Indians in you know what book!

I am also a little concerned about the young couple, no one seems to know, trying to leave the hotel during the storm.

I am racing through the book now as it is due soon at the library...

Yikes, Pghfan. That had to be the worst! And, jam a chair if available under door knob to cram it tight. ;-)

Even if they got cold feet or some such, there'd have to be a way to get word back to someone at Hill House to let all know they're okay. Then as this is a mystery, perhaps they fled and don't want to be found? We shall see.

Making each murder different makes it difficult for everyone to stay safe.
