Katharine Worth (katharineworth) | 2 comments Hi, everyone. I'm a white woman who reads primarily BWWM and AA romance (long story why, going back 8-10 years ago, I can share the whole thing if you need that info to help build trust). Now that I'm starting to publish my own writing, that's what I'm writing, too.

My beliefs: that romance is revolutionary for the way that it argues everyone is worthy of love. That white folks should read and listen to BIPOC voices. That white writers who only write white characters are doing active harm, as are white writers who write stereotyped BIPOC characters. That white writers need to be extra careful when they write BIPOC characters.

With all that in mind, I'm looking to create an ongoing professional relationship with someone who can be a sensitivity reader for me. At the moment, I can't afford to hire cover designers, editors, etc, but this work is important and carries with it a burden I know that white people often expect BIPOC (especially Black women) to carry for them, so I will find the money to pay for this work.

About the gig: I have a backlog of novels (~55k words each) that I am going to be publishing about every other month. They are BWWM romances with some steam. I need someone to read through and check me when my white privilege rears it's head. Basically, read my books before they're published and tell me if/where I've gone wrong. More on sensitivity reading here: https://www.bookmachine.org/2019/01/1...

About you: If you are Black (especially a Black woman in the US) and can read and provide sensitivity notes within 2 weeks of receiving my draft, let me know! I ask that, if you are chosen, you keep the details of our work confidential (e.g., don't share drafts around the internet). (Note that I'm not asking you to be secretive about working with me or the fact that I'm white; only that my drafts don't get handed around or details of my stories posted around.)

Right now, I can pay $100 per book, but I'm hoping to raise that rate if/when I start making money. If you're interested, please DM me here on Goodreads or shoot an email to me (thekatieworth [at] gmail [dot] com) and tell me about you, share any social media profiles if you have them (it's ok if you don't), and tell me what your favorite(s) AA or IR romances are.

Katharine Worth (katharineworth) | 2 comments Hi, Ellen. I write contemporary BWWM romances with strong, smart Black women and the men who love them.

Since posting this message here, I found someone who has been working with me, but if I need someone in the future, I'll let you know!
