Is it time to reassess QAnon? Are they a group who are in the know rather than a bunch of crazy conspiracists? They made these accusations before the public had even heard of Ghislaine Maxwell. Should the Shamen be given a pardon and offered an honoury place in Congress?

message 311: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't know, Papaphilly. I'm hoping you can help me make up my mind.

Thing is, QAnon predicted exactly what is now being examined in court before the public had even heard of Epstein or Maxwell. They even named names and those names are being mentioned in said courtroom. Did they hazard a wild, lucky guess or did they know something?

What do you think and why?

They are crazy conspiracists. As far as I know, I have not heard of any charges brought by them or accusations other then the Trump stuff.

https://youtu.be/Kh-j8cX90uw

message 316: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8079 comments I read that and had to laugh. No president has been treated worse or more unfairly by the media than Trump. Whereas Biden gets a pass on everything by the mainstream media. If they treated Biden like they did Trump, they'd be questioning him about his financial relationship to Hunter. They'd be asking him how it's okay to have an open border and how that's affecting citizens who live on the border as well as the country at large. They'd be reminding him that there are still Americans in Afghanistan. They'd be reporting on how his weakness is affecting international relationships with Russia and China. And so many other questions that they just don't ask. What a joke to say that they're harder on Biden than Trump.

As much as I tend to be a bit more even keeled on media treatment, even I have to acknowledge how easy the media has been on Biden. I do agree if that would have been a Trump child and not Hunter Biden, the media would have been all over it.

J. Gowin | 7994 comments If Donald Trump Jr. was drummed out of the Navy for being a crackhead; knocked up a stripper while dating his brother's widow; committed perjury by falsifying a federal affidavit, in order to illegally buy a gun; held a series of do nothing jobs with companies which had interests in influencing US policy, while his father was in office; accepted millions of dollars in investment capital from the Bank of China, AKA the CCP; and set up an obvious bribe laundering scheme through art sales...

The MSM talking heads would be leading the angry mobs to Don Jr's front door.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8079 comments Thanks for that link. It's really what we all know. Press conferences are rigged, and the people aren't represented. The questions we have aren't asked or answered. When Biden's asked an impromptu question, he says he'll get in trouble for answering it. In trouble with whom? Since when does someone have power over what the president can say? Who's really in power? He's made it clear that it's not him.

J. Gowin | 7994 comments Travel and tourism expected to grow to $8.6 trillion in 2022
https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/pa...

Apparently, CNN doesn't expect you to read the article. If you read the article, you would read that it is "growing" to a level slightly lower than pre-pandemic. Therefore it is not growth, it is a rebound, and the headline is a lie.

message 323: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments I think in fairness many people consider something of value x is growing when dx/dt is positive. Even more so when d^2x/dt^2 is positive.

David Gustafson The holy mantra of journalism is , “who, what, where, when and sometimes, how.”

The NYT, WaPo, The LA Times, PBS, CNN, FOX News, CBS, ABC, NBC and MSNBC have as much “wwww and h integrity” as Pravda, Izvestia or Hitler’s Völkischer Beobachter.

American news is nothing but boob tube bobbleheads babbling “blah, blah, blah…blah, blah, blah…blah, blah, blah.

For those of you who don't know me, I'm English. I'm grateful for this but am becoming increasingly baffled by the direction of the Western world, particularly our 'quality' media.

Where has all the objective reporting gone? Why all the juvenile propaganda, cover ups and obvious bias to one particular point of view?

Anyway, over recent months, I've been getting more and more impressed by 2 non-Anglophile mainstream media outlets: France 24 and Russia Today. The latter might set alarm bells ringing for some of you but I urge you to give them both a go with an open mind. While they inevitably have their own bias (we all do), their attempts at objectivity and impartialty really do put the BBC, CNN and the like to shame:

Feel free to thank me in a few months' time, when you realise that you've never been better informed about what's going on in the world :)

message 339: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments Then it shows Russia is improving. I am afraid I cannot say that the Western Press is improving, but rather it is degrading, descending more and more into opinion pieces. Simply presenting the facts seems to have gone out of fashion in the West, probably because pandering to what people want to hear is what sells copy.

If the Editor in Chief of RT, Margarita Simonyan, is as trustworthy as the rats at CNN, MSNBC, BBC, and many others, that just means she's another creature wallowing in the cesspool.

To the best of my knowledge, and bearing in mind we can't get it now, I would guess RT would answer no to those questions, except (2). It will have reported the Ukrainian use of Tochka U missiles, some of which have hit Belgorod.

Sure they are and have been since 2014: Donetsk and Lugansk and the bunch of smaller towns and villages around them can be safely considered to be at least 50% Russian cities in the sense of the population there being about that % Russian. Probably more (up to 70-80%) but no less.

Theese cities have been shelled by the Ukrainian army since 2014 non-stop. Quite a lot of buildings and infrastructure have been rebuilt mupltiple times during this period.

Timeliness also should count. Media not reporting stuff when it's most salient and coming back to stuff like that as an afterthought damages reporting no matter how much they say sorry after.

That's like Iraq and Powell's vial of piss: you can't unbomb Iraq after media catches up with the truth finally, years later. I also sort of missed the US paying for the damages they wrongfully and in bad faith incurred to Iraq.

So, the media owning up to stuff after the deed's done is still misinformation mission accoplished. Maybe not an A but B+ definitely.
