Felicity Larrick | 615 comments So true! I will have The Joy Luck Club done tonight.

message 202: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Woohoo!

okay so we have 10 books left in our main spread; 2 of which are gonna be finished soon lol. So were pretty close. Theres a 7 card that Im worried about so if has something they can whip out for that let me know. were doing awesome!

message 203: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments I have a V card I can read this week so that would be the 7. I am probably not finishing the two books I have on the sheet so I will move them to March.

message 204: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments I also will be finishing a book that can be used for a 5 or a 6.

message 205: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 529 comments Anyone have link for book for mini challenge I just want to make sure I have the right book I know its call the joy luck club but never heard of it.

message 206: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments The book is The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. Here is a nice summary of the characters and the stories so you can connect your books.

https://www.litcharts.com/lit/the-joy...

The book is about relationships between Chinese mothers and daughters. Anything can work for the connection- from Chinese authors, characters, mothers, daughters, women who play games (in the book they play Mah Jong), divorce, death, rape, marriage, historical fiction, luck, talent. One of our team members used a book that had the same rating on Goodreads as The Joy Luck Club. There are all sorts of connections that can be made with all the stories in the book.

Lynne | 94 comments Felicity wrote: "@Lynne- I have a question. I belong to a book club that is going to be picking our books for the year this week. I was planning to suggest The Book of Lost Friends and noticed you had read it. Then..."

Yes I think both of those books would be perfect for book club discussions!

message 208: by Elena (new)

Elena Akgül | 73 comments I am reading a book that can be used as 6

message 209: by Vivi (new)

Vivi | 137 comments Hi, moved my 2 books for March.
Will try to find a short book that can be used for a card and the mini-challenge.

message 210: by Vivi (last edited Feb 23, 2021 01:48PM) (new)

Vivi | 137 comments Decided to read Falling for the Ghost of You.

It fits cards 4 and 7;

and also the mini-challenge (same avg rating as the The Joy Luck Club)

message 211: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments So I should have Dewey The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron for the 7 and We Could Be Heroes by Mike Chen for a 5 or a 6 so could also work for a Draw 2. Hoping Kaylee can weigh in on what will be needed down the stretch. Between Elena, Vivi and I we are covering maybe more than half the books needed to finish this month.

message 212: by Lynne (new)

Lynne | 94 comments I am in the middle of four books that will be done by the end of the month that should work for something hopefully, if it isn’t already taken care of.

message 213: by Verónica (new)

Verónica | 417 comments Today I finished Addie LaRue, great book. I already updated the spreadsheet. I don't think I will be able to finish The Stand this month, since I'm reading the uncut version and it's freakishly long (1436 pages) and I'm only half way, so I'll pick something for the mini. Let me know if there's still a card we need to cover so I pick accordingly.

message 214: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments So I just finished a 7 book so we won't need that.

message 215: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments @Elena- I was wondering if you were reading or still planning to read The Searcher. I have it and was going to read it for another challenge but didn't want to duplicate something you were in the middle of.

message 216: by Elena (new)

Elena Akgül | 73 comments @Felicity I am going to read it as I need it for another challenge too, but I have time till the end of the year, so you can read it now if you like. I have other books that can be used for uno

message 217: by Apoorva (new)

Apoorva Uplap (apoorvauplap) | 4 comments Do I need to create a separate shelf for uno? As I've simply added a uno tag for all the books till now

message 218: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments Here is what the instructions say: "Set up your UNO Shelf.
This helps your team captains check your books, and is also quite cool later when you want to see what you have read in UNO over the years. Goodreads help explains how to add a new shelf if you haven't done it before here."

message 219: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments @Lynne- Books for the challenge count for the regular challenge and the mini challenge (if you can find a connection.) Looks like you have read some books and just put them on the mini challenge spreadsheet not the main sheet.

message 220: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Yes you have to have an uno shelf!!! The books dont count if they arent on your uno shelf!

message 221: by Vivi (new)

Vivi | 137 comments Apoorva wrote: "Do I need to create a separate shelf for uno? As I've simply added a uno tag for all the books till now"

You do have a uno shelf, here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Your books read for this UNO challenge have to be in this self. You have to add them after reading them to this shelf of yours.

Thank you, but I’m not sure which books you are talking about, unless this was meant for someone else? All of my books on the mini are already on the main sheet.

message 223: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments Hi Lynne- I had looked at the spreadsheet and hadn't seen a date on the Guernsey book on the main sheet and now realized I was looking in the wrong place for the other books. I see the dates now. Maybe it was a refreshing issue.

message 224: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments Kaylee- I am holding off on finishing books waiting for the spreadsheet updates. I could probably finish 2 books this weekend but I am waiting to see what we need. If we don't need anything, I will wait for Monday to finish books. But the sooner I know the better.

message 225: by Alejandra (new)

Alejandra | 225 comments Finally finished th kitchen gods wife, I’m going to pick shorter books for March. It was a slow read, but I liked it.
I’ll fill the spreadsheet later today. What cards do we need? Time for one book for the weekend

message 226: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments In March, can Kaylee share her captain's duties with someone else so we have more of an idea of what is going on? I know she is super busy but my frustration level is really high with no contact or direction. Also, should the co-captain be checking in more? And is there a way to see if the folks who have not spoken up in 3 weeks or posted books are even participating?

message 227: by Vivi (new)

Vivi | 137 comments Felicity wrote: "In March, can Kaylee share her captain's duties with someone else so we have more of an idea of what is going on? I know she is super busy but my frustration level is really high with no contact or..."

Well, I guess teammates that haven't posted books or commented here, aren't really participating. It's almost the end of the month... But we'll see if anyone new pops up.

I'm reading Falling for the Ghost of You that I'm thinking might be used for a 4 card... That's it for me, this month.

Maybe it would help if we (that are reading books) sort of claimed cards, so we see what it's left to use... Just a suggestion.

It might help too, to see what cards we need still.

message 228: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments I am working on the spreadsheet now. I will post as soon as I see what is needed.

message 229: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Hi all; working on the spreadsheet after i eat, im sorry ah!

message 230: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments If I did this right, we are done! Looks like Kaylee may be working on it now.

message 231: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments If anybody has time, can we get a list of our inactive team members? I can message them and let them know they have 48 hours before theyre replaced.

message 232: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments I don't see anything from Shikha or Jodi.

message 233: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments Do you want me to post how I set this up? I used The Court of Silver Flames to cover the Draw 2 and the 4 and 8. (A Draw 2 covers 2 cards in a hand.)

Vivi | 137 comments Felicity wrote: "Do you want me to post how I set this up? I used The Court of Silver Flames to cover the Draw 2 and the 4 and 8. (A Draw 2 covers 2 cards in a hand.)"

message 235: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Alright, the spread is done :) Thanks for your patience yall

message 238: by Elena (new)

Elena Akgül | 73 comments I was going to finish my book for the mini challenge tonight. Do you think I should still do it or leave it to March?

message 239: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Do it :D!!!

Jodi and Shika have both commented here in the beginning and they both read books this month.

BUT, they didn't put their books on their Uno self or the spreadsheet.

And they haven't commented here in a while... An email asking if they're still up to participating in the Challenge might help.

message 241: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments I can look at some of them. You can take The 8th Detective off the list because I read it and it is on the mini challenge spreadsheet.

message 242: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments Would you like me to put them in the mini log as I find connections?

message 243: by Verónica (new)

Oh, I thought the book was eligible if we started on/or after Feb 14th, but is the finished date that counts. I'll add it.

I will look for a connection for Addie LaRue, if anyone that has read it has any ideas please let me know. I think I will finish another one today that I can make a connection, "Why Fish Don't Exist" (Written by a Female Author).

message 244: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments Addie - historical fiction
Death of Capitalism- communism vs non- capitalism
The Comeback- empowered women

Any historical fiction connects

Verónica | 417 comments Felicity wrote: "Addie - historical fiction

Got it, thanks.

message 246: by Lynne (new)

Lynne | 94 comments Thanks for figuring all of that out Kaylee and Felicity! I will now wait to finish my current reads since I know we don’t need them.

I think all of my books that can be are already on the mini except for one that I can’t figure out a connection for (The Trees). A couple on that list say my name but aren’t my books.

Good job to everyone this month!!

message 247: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments more-
The Trees - both authors are women whose names start with A
How to Train Your Earl - historical fiction
The Naked Duke - historical fiction
The House of Blue Mangoes- historical fiction

message 248: by Elena (new)

Elena Akgül | 73 comments @Felicity I noticed that you wrote 10 points for the Joy Luck Club in the mini-challenge, but isn't it 30 points for reading the assigned book?

message 249: by Verónica (last edited Feb 27, 2021 12:55PM) (new)

Verónica | 417 comments Would you say this is orange or yellow?

29579

message 250: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments Elena- reading somewhere else we get 10 points for the book read and then 30 points for reading the chosen book. So I input 30 points in the block next to our list. it shows our summary and the 30 point book.

Veronica- I think it is more orange than yellow.
