I've actually read this one and i liked it. but i've read most if not all the books from the authors i know i like.

Can someone explain the numbered colour cards to me? I am a bit confused lol. Where does the number come from?
It has to fit the color and apply to that number card :) so a blue 6 has to fit for the normal 6 card and be blue
Another color question- I have 2 red books but we do not need any this month. It appears to me there are a lot of red books (as opposed to yellow, for example) but should I wait to read my red books until March?
If youre willing to put them off till then sure! No pressure though :)
I started one last night but I can wait on the other. If we start a book in February but finish it in March, which month does it count for?

Can shades of orange or pink be counted for yellow or red cards respectively?
Nope :/ it has to be a shade of the specific color

Finished Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood, really liked it. already updated the spreadsheet. what do you guys feel about including a rating in the spreadsheet? so that we can check out if there are any that we want to read from the list or a book we want to recommend, not that we have problems with the Reverse...
I think that’s a great idea! But I am not crazy about Goodread’s limited rating system. I would like a system where you could rate books 3.5 or 4.25. I would find that more helpful.

I have a question. If one book qualifies for two things for one card, like Author and Character with F. Does it counts as two cards or just one?
Kaylee- are you going to have a chance to look over the spreadsheet this weekend to see what categories we are going to need? I seem to be reading at a faster pace than I expected so I would be glad to add in some titles to fill our holes. I started a book to match a 7 today because it looks like that is hard to find, for instance.

Looks like we have to read connecting books to The Joy Luck Club. Is this something we should come up with individually or do the captain or co-captain coordinate this?

What do you mean by “connecting books”? The Joy Luck Club is a stand-alone, right?
I doesn't have to be in a series just a connection with something about the book. For instance, I am reading How Much of These Hills is Gold and we can use that because the characters are Chinese. On my list of books to read is The Mothers which connects because The Joy Luck Club is about relationships between mothers and daughters. We could read books with red in their covers since this cover is red. I wonder if I read a book by an author of the same name or characters with the same name if they count? If we read the genre- fiction and historical fiction, does that count?

Games (they play a lot of mah jong in JLC)
Storytelling
What else can we think of that would connect?
I bet your characters with the same name idea would work, Felicity, especially if it is main characters.
I feel like the fiction genre is too broad to be a connector, but historical fiction works I think.
Apoorva is reading books on chess so those would work as games and there is a character who was a chess prodigy. I have an Amy Stewart book to read so Amy's would match. I googled characters in the book and there are lots of titles to stories and character names we could connect to.
Hey yall! glad you are all ahead of me on the mini this month lol. Sorry for my absence, life has been crazy! Im updating the spread, I'll add a copy of the mini for us to work with to our system too!
by the way I LOVED the joy luck club so I hope whoever ends up reading it enjoys! :D
so as for connecting the books, we dont have to follow a set of rules or anything as long as we can justify it. Genre is good, I think it would need to be specific though; like with historical fiction maybe instead like "books that took place in the 80s" or something?
Fyi everyone (sorry for the spam of messages oh my) im gonna be highlighting the books that I use on the sheet so I know what I can still use; dont worry about it :P unless one of your books is highlighted red :)
Looks like we still need a Green 9, and a blue 7. we also have a WD4 left; we cant duplicate the same card more than once otherwise that would be easy because we have so many blue 1 books!We also need one more reverse card which obviously joy luck club can work with :D
Okay; status update once again haha. All of the read cards have been put on the copy of the board, im having access issues with the official sheet but that will be updated soon. Looks like were a little over halfway done so were on track! woo!

I just finished One of Us and and it's a Blue 7 :D.
So I just finished Mercy Falls by William Kent Krueger which has a red cover so that would connect with our mini challenge. Do I need to put it somewhere to show it"s part of the mini challenge?

Darn- this challenge doesn't start until tomorrow so disregard my last statement. And darn- I hurried to finish that book and could have finished it tomorrow to count for the challenge.
Yay, we have 3 books on our mini challenge! But I believe we put the books we read for the mini challenge on the main sheet and the mini challenge sheet. This is what the instructions say:"Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands. " So Navi, you can put your books on our main sheet too.

I am finishing reading Written with You by Aly Martinez. It has a character - Rosalee (nickname Rosie)...
I haven't read the The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, but I saw it has a character named Rose... Is this Rose nicknamed Rosie too? (could there be a connection through these characters names?!)

Id say written by a female author counts, She doesnt have a nickname of rosie from my memory nobe as specific as you can but being broad is fine too :) Theres no rules, its just for being fun!
