Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments -Only Books STARTED after the challenge officially begins can count towards our cards! The challenge starts on February 1st at 7PM AEDST.

-Books must be at least 100 pages in length. If its a children's book, graphic novel, etc, I'll need to you verify that it is at least 25,000 words on arbookfind.com

-You must put your finished books on your Uno shelf for the challenge and have it marked as "read" on your account. If its not there, it doesn’t count :/

-Color cards must have at least 50% of the cover in the designated color to count. You can check the percentage here; https://labs.tineye.com/color/

- Remember that were a team and this challenge is social and for fun! Don't get too caught up in the competition aspect and enjoy! Reading is fun! :)

-Feel free to ask any questions that you may have either here or by sending me a message. I'll be sure to get back to you as soon as I can with an answer!

Our collaborative spreadsheet is available HERE: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Things that YOU need to do; (please 😊)
- Introduce yourself! This is a social challenge, feel free to get to know one another! We’ll be interacting for a while!
- Either Send me a message with an email account (preferably gmail) that you can get an invite to the spreadsheet for, or just post the email in the thread.
- Make sure you have an uno shelf ready for the challenge!
- Ask any questions you have!

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Hey Everyone! My name is Kaylee and I'll be your captain for this years round of UNO! This is my 3rd (4th?) time being captain for the challenge and Im super excited for it to start!!!

Im from the US, in Pennsylvania. Im an undergrad Sociology student at Drexel University in Philadelphia :) That is where I am currently living, and doing classes remotely! Im also a cashier at my local grocery store. I read a lot of young adult but as of recently Ive also been reading a lot of non fiction! I love chai lattes and seltzer water, my favorite movie is V for Vendetta, and I am very much a cat person!!

As far as UNO goes, the method that Ive used the last few years has been putting everything on a spreadsheet together, that has all the info for the books that we read. That way you can still read the books you want and theres more flexibility (except for with those blasphemous colored cards!!!) I posted the spreadsheet above; let me know what you think of this system, and DM me your email so I can give you editing abilities!

Feel free to introduce yourselves! What caffeinated beverages get you through the day? What do you love to read most?

message 11: by Verónica (new)

Verónica | 417 comments Hi everyone!

My name is Veronica and I'm from Mexico. I'm a homemaker, mother of three children and a PhD Candidate in Physics. This is my first time playing and I'm very excited, seems like a lot of fun!

About my reading habits, I read a lot more non-fiction but lately I've been adding more fiction to my diet, classics and contemporary. My favorite genres of non fiction are science, psychology, sociology and history. And for fiction I prefer science fiction, suspense, mystery, fantasy and horror. I also love classics and literary fiction. I consume books in all formats, books, e-books and audio, so I always have a book with me.

I love music (listen and play), cooking and of course, reading. I drink my coffee black, but I get the sweetness from pastries, those things are my weakness, and since quarantine I learned to do a lot of those at home, and oh what a big mistake that was haha.

It's seems I've been assigned as co-captain, and I have no idea what my role is, but I'm on board. My email is vapatron@gmail.com.

Nice to meet you all!

message 12: by Juhi (new)

Juhi (juhi-malani) | 22 comments Hey!
I'm Juhi and this is my first time playing the book version of UNO.
Has anyone seen Stand By Me?

My book picks are completely dependent on my mood, so that means I read a range of things, and I make a terrible reading buddy. :P
I recently finished The Foxhole Court series by Nora Sakavic, and I'm currently having one hell of a book hangover.

Macchiatos or black tea, don't really have a favorite movie, and cats and dogs both work for me!

@Kaylee I love your spreadsheet set up. Will we be filling out the Team Spreadsheet at the top too?

message 13: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments I usually fill that official team spreadsheet out on my own because its only supposed to be editable by the captains and I am a control freak lol I also find it relaxing to organize everything, as strange as that is

message 14: by Elena (new)

Elena Akgül | 73 comments Hi everyone! :)

I am Elena. I'm from Russia but I live in Turkey. I'm a high school English teacher. I have five gorgeous cats and a husband :)

It is my first time playing UNO, so I am really excited. I love reading and I can't imagine my life without books. I can read anything (non-fiction, classic books, fantasy, science fiction, poetry) but my favorite genre is crime/thriller.

@Kaylee I prefer my coffee white such as latte or macchiato
@Juhi I haven't seen Stand By Me but now I think I will :)

message 15: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments Hi Im Felicity and I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. This is my first time playing UNO. This was recommended by a friend in my Literary Society who is a co captain of another group and she said it is a lot of fun.

It was fate that I was put in the Stand by Me group because in church the other day the sermon featured a scene from the movie and my husband and I agreed we need to watch it again. So it is sitting at the library for me to pick up and watch this weekend!

My household consists of my 18 year old daughter who is a senior in high school and debating where she will go to college next year and my husband, who is recovering from a massive stroke he suffered last May. I spend my time driving him to therapy and appointments but always find time to read. We also have an orange tabby named Tiger.

Over the past year, I have found a new favorite genre: UpLit. I also like general fiction, mystery, thriller, some non fiction and some fantasy, particularly time travel. I am in 3 book clubs and our neighborhood Literary Society, as well as following a bookish blogger, so I always have lots of books and genres on my TBR list.

I created an UNO shelf that has the books I have on hand that I want to read in the next month or two. I'm sure that list will grow.

I find caffeine leaves me jittery and I can't sleep if I have too much late in the day so I have 2 cups of coffee in the morning (Starbucks Pike Place in my Keurig) and an iced tea at lunch.

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

message 22: by Alejandra (new)

Alejandra | 225 comments Hi everyone,
Just checking in
I'm Alejandra, or Alex/Ale for short. I'm from Colombia, Im a Child Psychiatrist, mother of one unruly teenager and owner of one disastrously unruly puppy.
I love to read, always have, i don't have as much time for it as i used to, but i still make time. i read a lot of historical romance, paranormal and fantasy (yes, i like to escape from reality, and like happy endings). i read psych and science as well, but i take my time with those. i generally have a text on the slow burner while I read my "junk food" books pretty fast, but i don't like reading several books at the same time. i love series because i get to spend more time on their world.
i generally have books i want to read planned for UNO, but this month has been hectic, we are on lockdown, a lot of the kids haven't gone to school for almost a year, those who are going just have one o two days a week, the rest at home, so mental health has seen a steep decline lately, and that means i'm working like crazy. i'm on call frequently, but i'm going to try to keep up. if i'm lagging ill let you guys know.
i'm a tea person, but i don't function on caffeine. i'll have a Coke every now and then, but not to keep me up, i've never felt a significant effect, so i'm on my own when i need a pick me up.

and after all this oversharing, I'll check out. i'm glad to be playing Uno with all of you, i'm sure we are going to have a lot of fun.

Vivi | 137 comments Hi everyone, I'm Vivi.

I'm so happy to be here. Love the team name btw... I have seen the movie many years ago.

I'll edit this post later, to share more info... I'm in my lunch break right now 😁

Edit

I'm back...

So, I was one of the reserves, it's my 3rd (or 4th?) time playing UNO and I love it! 💕

My official name is Verónica (but I go by Vivi here), I'm from Portugal 🇵🇹 and I'm a social worker.

I like cappuccino and hot cocoa, but I usually drink 2 expresso coffees ☕ a day when I'm working.

I love to read. I read fiction only, and I love romances. I read about LGBT couples as much as I read about heterosexual couples. I enjoy books that make me feel something...and characters I can relate to or connect with.

I'm a bit of a mood reader, but I usually have planned the next book I am going to read. I only read one book at a time.

If I'm busy, I usually take a while to read a book. This month has been a bit low on the reading side, but I do expect February to be better.

My email (for the spreadsheet) is veronicaortins@gmail.com

Oh, and I have a cat named kika. 🐈

Poongothai (poongsa) | 559 comments Hi everyone. I'm Poongothai
I'm a Civil Engineer from India. I'm a mother of two young boys. I have been playing UNO from its start, been a player, captain and co-captain. I read romances, thrillers and mysteries.
My reading has come down this past year, I try to read one book per week.
Waiting for the fun to begin

Navi (nvsahota) | 17 comments Hi everyone! I am one of the reserve players put on this team :)

I am so beyond excited to be participating in UNO for the first time! I read widely across all genres but my recent go-tos have been Fantasy, Romance and Thrillers. I am 31 years old and live in British Columbia, Canada. I have a husband who I love dearly (mostly because he puts up with me reading all the time lol!).

Fave caffeinated beverages - black tea and coffee

message 26: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments Another question- on the collaborative spreadsheet, how many books should we enter? Should it be the number we expect to read for February?

message 27: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments yeah the ones you expect to read is fine, just make sure youre updating as you read them; theres no like expectation for you to read them if theyre there btw, if you dont get to it you dont get to it!

I know. I am just letting everyone know which books I have already read for the following task:

"One member of your team must read a book another team member has already read
(Make sure you include who read it in your submission!)"

:)

message 31: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Yep! Reverse cards are cards that someone else on the team has already read, so those are important :D

I am looking forward to the big day!

message 38: by Vivi (new)

Vivi | 137 comments @Veronica,
You have double entered some of your books on the spreadsheet. There's duplicates (at least to me it appears that way).

Want to erase the duplicates or want me to do it?

message 39: by Navi (new)

Navi (nvsahota) | 17 comments I love to plan as well! Trying to finish up all of the books on my currently reading shelf so I can have a clean slate come Feb 1 :D

message 40: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments me too! Fortunately I only have 2 that I plan to finish and 1 that I will read slowly as I read the ones for this challenge. Don't want a book hangover come Monday.

I just checked and I don't see any duplicates, maybe in the chaos we had earlier it appeared that way. But if you see any duplicates feel free to erase, thanks!

message 42: by Felicity (new)

Felicity Larrick | 615 comments I think Kaylee may have been going through the list.

message 43: by Vivi (new)

Vivi | 137 comments Old Man's War
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue
One of Us

These 3 books show up as entered 2 times in the Spreadsheet (at least to me). I'll try to fix it (hope I don't erase the books you want to read)

And I am planning to read two Anton Chekhov's books, one of them has been deleted by someone

The spreadsheet should be okay now...

message 46: by Felicity (new)

Something must have been up, because I did see duplicates of your books in the Spreadsheet. Seems I must have erased your books. Sorry.

The spreadsheet seems okay to me, now.

I think it is okay for us to add the books at the end of the spreadsheet (or to add rows). I'd suggest to do as you prefer.

And, I won't mess with the spreadsheet anymore.

Don't worry, it probably was a result of us working on it at the same time, the updates were all over the place. It seems we all are enthusiastic about planning.
